The orange button that is always referenced: I can’t seem to find the danged thing. What am I missing? Seriously, I never see it.
It is in reference to the search button.
Gone, but not forgotten.
In the beginning, there was the Website, and it was good.
Verily, the site began to grow, and threads became fruitful and multiplied.
And word of the website spread, over hill and mountain, across river and even the seas.
And a multitude came to the website. And it was still good.
But eventually the knowledge contained within became so vast, that the users cried out: “What lube shall I buy?” for the eleventy-billionth time and “Verily, were can I find thy PMAG at a non-scalper’s price? For unbelievers have beset us on all sides, and I must have them, lest I perish.”
They knew not where to find the Thread of Knowledge.
Then Staff, who sits at the right hand of the Administrator, called out to the users: “Behold, I give you this Orange Search Button. Use it, and thou shall be satisfied. Thou shall never want for magazines again.”
There was much rejoicing throughout the land, and the users sang, and danced, and bought carbines, and went to training.
And It Was Good.
And then the vBulletin prophets arose, and spake thusly: “Ye shall have a new version of the forum software, and it shall incorporate The Search from the land of Google.”
The users were sore afraid, but the Mods and Staff spoke comfortingly, beseeching them to try the new search before casting doubts upon it.
So they availed themselves of the new Google Custom Search, appearing miraculously at the upper right hand corner of thy webpage.
And It Was Good.
Here endth the lesson.
And the congregation said “amen!”
Epic thread is epic.
Army Chief would have been proud!
Bravo Zulu !
Thanks!
Didn’t hardly want to ask a question for fear of being chastised and humiliated over lack of consulting the orange button. This is a good place, but always had that orange button issue hanging over my head!
Gosh, The “Orange Button” was referenced so many times in the past, I kind of miss it.
Newb: "What’s better, “Brand X” or “Brand Y”. Can someone school me on this? "
Senior Member/Moderator/Staff/Admin: "Go use the “Orange Button”.
Except of course “JSantoro” would swoop in and show you how it’s done in two seconds showing dozens of search results about brand “X” and brand “Y”! His version of NCIS Gibbs slap to the back of the head moment! Ahhh, those were the days my friend… ![]()

Nicely put Sir.
High praise indeed, he was my mentor.

First one I thought of.
Marvelous well was this done, SeriousStudent. The only way it could have been better was with a reference to the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch.![]()
I had thought about adding something about lambs, fruit bats, anchovies and breakfast cereals, now that you mention it.
SeriousStudent, I would love to hear your tale of how General Discussion came to be.
Long long ago… In a galaxy far far away…
Lolz.
“In the beginning there was Stupidity, and Darkness was over the face of the Internet….”
Wander over for beer and BBQ again, and we’ll jot down the rest of it. ![]()
The beer and BBQ part is attractive.
