That seems to be the theme for many of ALG’s products. The EMR series of rails and the ACT definitely have a high performance/quality to cost ratio.
Not to be a contrarian, but I am starting to like the Century RAK-1. While still not a ‘proven’ item (like per se the G2), it does provide a distinct wall. I happen to like a ‘military style’ trigger. The G2 is light throughout the pull, and not totally consistent. Those I have are very light, and only one has a distinct break. Most also have some degree of grittiness. The RAK provides smooth takeup and a very distinct break - maybe a tad heavy, but decent. I have tried three. One is a tad heavy. One mounted in a SAIGA is just about perfect.
Some of this thread and others I’ve read show a tendancy of the ALG to be a tad too light. On a military carbine, I would prefer a tad heavy to too light. Again, like most old school US Mil rifles, I like a ‘two stage’ feel, particularly in a semi auto. In a stressful condition, I think it can aid in making your shots count.
Indeed. ALG has really put some good quality out there.
The G2 has only proven to be inconsistent for me. Some are heavy, some light, some gritty, some less gritty, some have hammer follow issues, some double. I’ve had about 8 G2’s, and I’ve never had two be the same.
Never tried the RAK, I’d like to, but I will say, the latest Arsenal triggers I’ve used have been absolutely fantastic. I’ve had some junk Arsenal triggers, but the latest are smooth, with a very distinct wall and a short, crisp break with very minimal overtravel. That being said, I do waffle between an Arsenal and an AKT in my main AK, because I do understand and appreciate the value of a two-stage, but I find myself waiting on the two-stage. I can push the AKT about as fast as my fundamentals will allow. Take a speed/accuracy drill… I’m focusing on keeping the trigger fundamentals, but getting shots in a certain size target zone in a certain par time, at ever-increasing ranges. I can push the AKT right to my own limit for speed while maintaining accuracy. The two-stage is notably slower, and to pull through it disrupts my sight picture much more than the AKT. That has proven true for me at all ranges of the drill, 0-100 yards… I’m just faster with it, without throwing shots. And then for the more precision-oriented side of things, the two-stage does offer a greater potential, but I’ve not found myself hindered by the AKT yet. I haven’t tested them side-by-side for precision, though. I’m going to get out and do some comparisons in the next week or two, and see which one offers me the most speed and consistency for smaller targets at longer ranges… I’m thinking it’ll essentially be a speed/accuracy drill, but with headshots. A range report may follow from this.
All in all, training around safety use and keeping the finger off the trigger is critical with anything, but more so with the AKT. You can’t have your finger in there when you’re moving or transitioning, or you WILL let one or two go. Also, you also really can’t steadily pull through… You will most likely double on a 7.62 AK. The AKT, much like the S3G, is best suited to a quick press. So, there’s definitely some adjustment for a lot of guys, and I can see where it wouldn’t appeal to everyone. Personally, I’m still comparing and trying to figure out what I value most from an AK trigger.
Inebriated: good comments. I actually agree with you on the G2. I’ve found it very different from gun/trigger to gun/trigger. I’ve always found it strange that SO many people give it such high marks.
My other ‘like’ for the RAK is the price. You can find for about $30 shipped and this is great for those needing to equip several guns with a consistent pull. They see to always have smooth take up and crisp wall.
In all honesty, I think a lot of people give the G2 raving reviews because they have limited trigger experience. Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of guys that know what they want from a trigger and the G2 may suit them perfectly, it’s not like the G2 is junk, but there are just a ton of AK guys who’ve only used foreign triggers and the G2.
I might see if I can find a Century rifle around here to try the RAK. $30 delivered is a great price, especially as a “filler”, on rifles that aren’t primary shooters, but still could use something good.
Yes, I felt a couple of Century guns and said “wow”, so I ordered a unit to validate. I’d try the ALG, but I want the two stage feel, and don’t want to go light with only some.
Yeah, I think it’s important to have a consistent trigger feel across most guns. I kind of have an “A squad” and “B squad”, some rifles are defensive rifles, the others are just for fun. I’m wanting to get a similar trigger feel across the go-to AK’s and AR’s, I just need to decide what trigger does what I want best. For the B squad, it’s kind of whatever.
For those concerned with a light trigger pull you swap out the spring or just bend it a little to gets heavy trigger pull
Just dropped one of these in my AK last week and ran a few mags through it. Damn it feels nice and I really like the shallow curve to the trigger face as opposed to the G2. The Tapco G2 I pulled out was light but mushy with a lot of overtravel. The AKT is lighter with a short take-up and I can’t even feel any overtravel in it.
