In keeping with the midrange price, I am looking at Vector AKs in 7.62x39 with either the wood or synthetic stock and handguard combination. How durable are the synthetic pieces?
Also, the stamped metal receiver is the mid-priced one. Would you go up to $300 more just to get a machined receiver? I have never had an AK, but I want to try one. Thanks for your help. 
I’ve never had nor have I heard about any durability issues with any fixed stock on an AK. I have mostly synthetic stocks on my rifles, wood on few others. I’ve had to mortar a round one time on a synthetic stocked rifle, and had no problems. the folders I can’t speak for as I don’t have any. Take it for what it’s worth but the wood stocks are probably more durable in the long run, IMO. As far as milled receivers go, they are robust but make the rifle heavier and from what I’ve seen don’t cool as fast as a stamped gun.
If you’re willing to spend the money, go milled.
You’ll get a nicer rifle, much smoother, and built like a tank.
I own both milled and stamped rifles, the stamped work fine, the milled are just nicer.
You won’t have an issue with either a wood or synthetic fixed stock.

I was mainly concerned with any cracking issues on the synthetic, and I’d stick with the fixed stocks. Until I see if I will like the AK platform, I am more inclined to go with a stamped…though I really would like the milled version.
I have gone the “pay more for quality” route with my ARs, owning a Colt 6920 and a couple of other Colts, but it’s time to check out some of those “other” tools.

The synthetic isn’t like ABS plastic. It’s glass filled nylon polyamide, or should be.
