AK Scout Rifle/Samson K Rail

Two part question…

Are the Samson ak rails sturdy enough to mount optics on? And if so will it place a scope too high?

I’ve been thinking about adding a set of these(Samson’s site shows optics mounted) http://www.samson-mfg.com/ar-15_html/product/K-Rail-Model_1.html

And adding a 2.5x scout scope like the one from Leupold http://www.leupold.com/hunting-and-shooting/products/scopes/fx-ii-riflescopes/fx-ii-2-5x28mm-ier-scout/ with QD rings.

Is it going to perform the way I want it to?

How do you want it to perform?

The AK, particuarly in the 7.62x39mm chambering, is a 200 meter carbine for most uses. You might squeeze a little more out of that in 5.45mm or 5.56mm, but not much.

Wupps…forgot to specify. This will definitely be a sub 200 meter gun…250 tops. I want something to drop deer with when I’m not in open country, that will retain some of it’s AK utility.

Well, I have not personally used the Samson rail but I think it would add bulk and weight that aren’t really needed.

I think a simple Ultimak gas tube rail would be more than fine for mounting that scope, and it would allow you to keep a decent cheek weld.

No doubt the S sits higher than the U.
