So who is the best to deal with in regards to receivers. I see NoDak has some but don’t allow custom serial #'s anymore. And there is a guy down in Texas 74ULLC and CNC Warrior out of NC they have Billet receivers. Need to get some receivers so I can get my Krinks built already.
Hmm, never seen billet AK receivers, but as far as stamped receivers go I wouldn’t use anything other than a NoDak.
74U LLC makes a great receiver, if you need a custom serial number. They are a custom item, so be prepared to wait.
If you don’t need a custom serial number or markings, just get a NoDak. If you need custom markings, you could also buy a NoDak and have Mario at PoH do the custom engraving.
You might try Elk River Tool & Die out of Belgrade, Montana.
By billet I’m guessing you mean milled…
What kits, specifically, do you have? That should determine what receivers you need.
2 Yugo M92 krink kits
1 Bulgy krink kit
2 Tips krink kits.
Just looking for someone that can make quality receivers and provide quality service. Proper selector markings…etc…
Check out Dave’s receivers if you are looking for a more aesthetically correct receiver. Dave makes his receivers from flats. He is the owner of the company 74U LLC. He resides over on theakforum.net and you can view pics of his receivers there. He is in the process of getting a site up but has been busy with all the business he has received from word of mouth and the forum.
I’ve gotten extremely conservative about AK stuff, I simply don’t trust most US companies to be able to make things at least as good as the old Warsaw Pact equipment.
The only stamped receivers that I trust to be properly heat treated and geometrically correct are the DCI/Nodak Spud receivers.
74U LLC stuff looks good, but they haven’t been out very long and I haven’t seen any reports from anyone putting serious rounds down range with them. If they hold up and are heat treated properly, then I’d gladly recommend them as well.
Templar,
I do agree that the 74U llc receivers have not proven themselves yet in terms of durability as they are relatively new to the market. Ive spoken to Dave several times and he seems very committed to his receivers. Time will tell how they hold up and I sure hope they do. I also feel the same way about factory builds vs. kit builds as you. I have some nice US builds but I prefer a factory ones over a kit if possible. It only took US companies about 4-5 attempts to get a stamped kalashnikov receiver “right”
Another vote for Dave at 74U-LLC. His attention to detail and craftsmanship are extraordinary. He is a great guy, and he can and will engrave a custom serial number.
As far as heat treating goes, Dave is using one of the only 07 FFL/02 SOT heat-treating companies in the US. The reason why the receivers take a while to deliver is the apparent backlog with the heat-treating companies.
I am still pissed at Nodak for canceling the custom SN program. It seems they are another gun company that has gotten the “well this is the way it is, if you don’t like it then don’t buy it” attitude instead of listening to their customers.
