Buddy of mine is trying to sell his ak…He doesn’t know anything about it. I did a little research and found it’s a Hungarian amd 64. I also don’t know much about ak’s and was wondering if it’s any good and what’s a fair price for it. Ive been wanting to add an ak to my collection.

The AMD has some disadvantages of you actually want to shoot it: the wire stock is uncomfortable and the barrel is short with that extender tube welded on, so you lose ballistic performance and don’t get the compactness of the SBR.
I’d get a standard fixed stock AK or Russian/Bulgarian left side folder for a first AK.

The AMD-65 is my favortie AK variant. While I agree it may not be the best First AK, It’s ugly like AK’s should be, there is basically no cheek weld (get this: http://www.amd65tech.com/expertise.html#anchor_195 ) the handguard sucks, and the muzzle break roars. But there is just something about it that I love.
Second the amd65 Tech stock adapter. Makes the stock usable. Still not the most comfortable but a huge improvement. The trunnion used for that wire stock is actually decent. VERY solid lock up on the ones I’ve installed or used.
Replace the muzzle brake with a long flash hider like this thing: http://www.tacticalaccessories.com/products/viewproduct.php?id_product=747
Replace the hand guard with the midwest extended hand guard and optic mount.
Then it’d be a decent rifle. That’s a fair amount of work to consider.
Took the words right out of my mouth. For some reason, despite all the “negatives” on paper, my AMD65 never fails to bring a smile to my face.
This is an AMD-64.
As for AKs, there is an AMD-65, which you appear to have, and there is an AKMM-63 (sometimes called an AMD-63), that’s a full sized Hungarian AKM with the same handguard.
It’s value depends on:
TGI built kits for a long time and after the barrel ban was using commercial barrels.
Your rivets look shinier than the rest of the gun, so I’m guessing it was a homebuild on a complete kit. I can’t tell, but it looks like they used the extension piece between the brake and the muzzle (as opposed to the US made extendo brake or a 16" commercial AMD barrel).
Is the brake numbered to the other parts? Do your numbers match?
ETA: Just saw yours is on the FEG reciever… is the barrel 12.5" with a welded brake + extender?
I always put my face against the receiver when shooting wire stocks. I never felt held back by them. Ymmv
I found that on the FEG ones built with the low cap mag well that the well and catch could make mag manipulation a mess. One in a shop took minutes to dislodge an Eastern European mag. One I ordered was so loose that one of the Hungarian tanker mags would fall out. Other than that, their reported accuracy was very good, and of course the parts were superb as all FEGs were. They went for $400 shipped at one point:
Same here. I’ve never bothered with the AMD Tech stock mod. I have now fired mine enough that I know where I need to place the butt and where the wired should fall when I snap it up. I shoot my AMD way more than any of my other weapons for some reason.
