Im looking to make my AK more useable while out at the range. What are some good vests/ammo carriers for this application?

Can’t beat HSGI TACO pouches for the AK. If you’re ok with stacking 'em up in the full retention pouches go for it, but for light and quick with some retention, the TACO rocks. Mounted on your MOLLE system of choice and go for it.

this is a fairly poor pic of my first line belt. I’ve done some running and sliding with it, never had a mag fall out.

thats the beauty of TACO’s bo, they work for both mags, and M14 and G36 and G3 and FAL. They’re adjustable so you’re covered on any platform.

SOE Gear pouches work for AR and both AK platforms, I’ve used my Stacked Micro rig for all of the above in classes. I would assume his standalone pouches work the same. Great kit.

there’s quite a few nice dedicated rigs out there, a lot of variations on the chinese 3 cell rig, but for modular rigs the SOE or a taco rig are probably the best game in town

If you want a dedicated chest rig, take a look at Beez Combat Systems Shihan rig.

Thanks for the replies. Do you think I could get a 75 rd drum to fit in a dump pouch?

It’ll fit, but dump pouches are so floppy and a full drum is so heavy it’s going to beat the snot out of you if you move around.

Better to get a dedicated drum pouch that will hold the drum close to the body.

And, another +1 for Beez.

Maybe a 100rnd. SAW pouch would work?

yeah i run the same belt and/or my eagle PC with 3 tacos on the front…

another good rig from Beez is their AK chest rig with internal mag slots - very low profile. you can wear that, and put a taco or something on the front for quicker access, then replenish the taco as needed from the mag slots.
