AK Caliber question

Ok, so a friend of mine is AR’d out and wants something else, hes looking at AK 74 types. He has a buttload of .223 and 5.56 so he is thinking about getting one chambered in that caliber, but wonders if he should get a 5.45 and then buy the ammo etc; Either way hes gonna have to buy mags

I suggested he stay w/ what he has and a round not subject to the whims of the ATF and being Imported etc;

What say you?

If his supply of 5.56 is un-limited I’d highly recommend the Arsenal SLR106CR or FR.

Otherwise, I’d suggest a 74 in 5.45. Ammo is readily avaliable, its a proven combat round and mags and accessories are readily avaliable.

Full disclosure: I love the 5,45 round.

At $129 a tin, he’d only have to shoot a few tins to be break-even on the rifle compared to shooting MILSPEC quality 5.56. Plus all that stuff JOHNO said.
