I thought this was an interesting test of a common myth. Obviously if the dust cover/safety selector lever had been up they would have fared better:

It looks as if the info is flawed, these guys are obviously sided for the AR.
Watch the 2nd video the guy firing the gun can not get the mags in or out, and they must have filled the mags with dirt before loading. I have had my mags dumped in the dirt & they never jammed like that. Taking a look at the AR video I noticed that the dirt was gently laid on the gun not tossed on like the AK.
Come on guys give us a fair test, these videos are BS:rolleyes:

Be it an M-16 or a FAL or a Garand or an AK, a good trooper will keep as much crap out of the boiler room of his boomstick as he can.
I think it was pretty fair. It’s obvious the AK has a huge gap that dirt can enter easily and make it’s way into the magazine, whereas the AR with the bolt closed does not leave room for dirt to enter the mag. That said, what we don’t know is the level of lubrication each weapon system had prior to testing.
Another stupid “test”.
NO GUN LIKES ROCKS!!! I have killed every common battle/assault rifle or witnessed it get killed by rocks in the mechanism. Some systems tolerate more (open the bolt of an AR or a M1A and pour rocky dirt in there and see how it works out…) I even locked up a Mossberg 590 by having rock in the chamber area breaking a part of the disconector when I forced it open.
Lesson learned from this regardless of weapon system? Keep f*@%$ing rocks out of the operating mechanism of your weapon!!!
As an aside, you don’t have to put the top cover back on your AK to shoot it. I’ve shown it in some ak-centric classes in case what happens in the video occurs or the rare malfunction occurs when a expended casing finds its way above and behind the bcg locking the gun (an AK type ATE malfunction:D). It’s weird as hell the first time, but you won’t blow your face off with no top cover.
you get a pretty good faceful of powder gas and lube i’m guessing with no cover right?
this sort of thing is why i don’t get the whole “i never clean my gun” crowd… it’s just a machine. they work much better clean.
You don’t get any more blowback than that first mag out of your freshly lubed AR or when you are shooting an AR with a can.
IF you’ve got a hot date that night, carbine training probably shouldn’t be on the schedule for the day.
I’ve seen and shot captured Iraqi AKs that had been burried in the ground. That talcum powder dust over there turns to a cement type paste when it’s wet and needless to say they didn’t function very well. Nothing is exempt to that stuff.
Aside from the test, why the hell would you bury a chambered firearm with the safety off? That has got to be one of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen.
