AK barrel removal?

How difficult is it to remove the barrel of, in this case, an Arsenal SLR107CR?

Would like to have ADCO cut and thread the barrel and then pin a comp to minimum legal length. Would I realistically need presses and such to take it apart and then reassemble?

Thanks for any info.

Yes, you need presses. I’ve never heard of ADCO doing AK work. It’s a very different animal than the AR.

Pressing a barrel out of an assembled rifle isn’t easy without some fixtures, there is no way to get a straight shot at it with the press ram.

You will need a press to get the barrel pin out as well as the barrel itself out of the trunnion. I personally don’t think it would be worth it for the roughly 1" you would gain in OAL.

I did some by hand and I can tell you it’s not something I would want to do again. Extremely time consuming and difficult.

If you do decide to do it AK-Builder has a good kit:

If you’ve pressed on/off gas blocks before this isn’t that much harder. You’d also have to press off the rear sight block and use a steel pipe(not included in that kit) to press the trunnion off the barrel(steel bar through magwell, that socket w/ brass nut between bar and breach, steel pipe down barrel against trunnion).

Appreciate the replies. Sounds like a good way for me to mess up aperfectly good rifle. Thanks for the info.
