Recently got a nice Polish Tantal AK-47 made by the late Bobby at Salbo Arms, but it has one problem and I do not know how to fix it, or how it works…
The left side selector lever just spins. It does not actuate safety lever. I took both levers out and the selector has a male part that slides into the female hole on the safety lever. But there are no pins, locking cog or anything, so I cannot figure out how it is supposed to do anything. It looks like it may have been epoxied at one time, but if it was, then BOTH levers would not be able to be removed.
It’s possible with the Nodak Polish receiver and some custom work. I guess my point was it’s not abnormal to have the dummy switch, since as designed it was not intended to interface with the safety. In other words, there’s nothing “wrong” with the OP’s rifle. He’s just missing the fun parts.
You should be able to find a guide online to converting the selector switch to a safety (if it’s the right Nodak receiver).
I had plans to make mine into a functioning safety, I’ve seen a few articles about people who’ve done so… but in the neutered state, yours works as it came from the manufacturer.
Yes, it is a very low serial number Nodak Tantal receiver… My selector and safety lever look exactly like the pics in that link Nodak was doing before they started making the Tantal receiver, less the pin in the middle that must actuate the auto FCG somehow…
OK, the spinable selector makes sense now… Just to give it that real Tantal look…
