AK-47 as only rifle?

I realize this is probably the wrong forum to ask this question but there are alot of very knowledgeable, switched on people here versus most of the other online forums. I searched but didn’t see this question asked so what do you guys think?

How many people here either do or would feel comfortable with a good quality AK-47 in 7.62X39 as their only rifle?

I am referring to good quality rifles like Arsenal or Polytech with a backup of course.

Just something I have been thinking about lately when I should be designing new bottom rail metal…

While a lot of people here obviously prefer the M4 in many circumstances, you’re not going to find any knowledgeable folks on this board that would feel bad about just having an AK.

Why do you ask?

That’s about the size of it. I’d prefer something along the M4/M16/AR15 line for accuracy and ergonomics but I wouldn’t feel bad about just having an AK around.

I carry an AK variant for work (a Serb M92 Krinkov) and while I’d prefer a short-barreled AR, I don’t feel underarmed with it.

Just out of curiosity more than anything else. For a long time my only “real” defensive rifle was a Polytech AKS. I had multiple AR’s during that time but I never really trusted them because of gunshop rumors and my own experience with them. (Bushmaster, need I say more?:sarcastic:)

I was just wondering if anyone else had ever toyed with the thought of just going with an AK centric defensive philosophy.

One of those mental masturbation things I think about when I start getting fed up with working on my exciting projects at work.:lazy2:

Yes I would feel comfortable with only an AK.

So would my wife, it’s the “only” gun she owns…

If I had to go Kalashnikov only I’d want a 74 rather than a 47.

And there are other rifles I’d prefer due to faster magazine changes, better sights and things like that.

I have one as described and it is my go-to rifle, over an AR that I have a lot more $$ into. Every AR I’ve owned has had some issue or another, but my modified Krebs Custom AK-103k has been absolutely reliable from the first round I put through it.

I’d post a pic of it that illustrates the mods but I don’t want to come across as a thread hi-jacker…

My only concern would be the selection of defensive ammo.

If something came up and I had to sell all my rifles to raise funds the only one I would keep is the yugo underfolder AK I built.

I’m giving the Hornady V-Max 7.62X39 load a try this weekend, at least in terms of accuracy out of my rifle.

In the past I’ve had an AK as my only rifle, and if in the future that was to happen again I’d OK with that as well.

While I choose the AR, I’d be more than comfortable with just an AK.

Different people, different philosophy.

Personally, I don’t want to spend more money and time with the AK system. I choose to go with the AR15 system due to the knowledge I’ve gathered about the system in the past years, as well as other reasons.

If you only have one particular firearm, then you make the best of it. But if you have access to better systems and can afford them, go for it.

The AK-47 is my primary. Never jams, (mine hasnt) Can take a severe beating, can give a severe beating if i run her dry . Can leave the cleaning kit home. Capable of acceptable accuracy; ( Hits on a man size target @200m.)On the other side of the coin I am totally confident with my 20" bbl. A2 model Colt, hyper accurate, lighter weight weapon, mags, ammo. Each weapon has its merits.

The AK-47 is “the only” rifle millions of people have all over the globe in the most God for saken shit holes you can imagine.

My first “sporting rifle” that I bought when I was 20 was an AK, I haven’t stopped buying them since.

A 7.62x39 AK is my choice and well suited for mu AO.

Nothing wrong with the AK. I would bet half of the members here own one, including myself. That weapon has been killing people for a very long time and I would not feel under gunned. A lot of people feel if TEOTWAWKI happens, comets, zombies, etc…and can only have one weapon, the AK would be the weapon of choice for a lot of very positive reasons due to it’s loose tolerances, being rugged, and dependable. I would add an ultimak rail, a light and an H-1 Aimpoint to your AK to raise the odds of hitting what you’re aiming at in a fast manner, rather than looking through that very narrow rear sight. Come to think of it, I need to get up to speed with an AK course to try to get close to being as proficient with it as I am with the AR platform.

Since I own more AKs than AR-15 type rifles, yes I would be more than comfortable with AK as my only rifle.

Buy lots of ammo, take some Vickers AK classes, and you will be GTG.

A quality AR will run just as well. Including when you run it dry. You can also run it dirty. Look at Mike Pannone’s 2500 round test without lube.

Don’t buy the bullshit hype about the AK or the bullshit rumors about the AR.
