Airbus Formation Flying

Not anything special for a commercial jetliner performing some basic maneuvers but having five of them do it is pretty darn interesting. Yep, wish I could have made the flight.

For those of you who want to see the really badass stuff but don’t want to watch the whole video, skip to 4:15.

That is awesome!!

Pretty slick.

The logistics are more interesting than the actual flight. USAF pilots are flying 3 foot wingtip separation before they’re even out of flight school and most of these guys were ex-military. It’s simply a matter of scale. And a pilot from any of the US services could do it no problem, even if they spent their career flying heavies with no formation work at all. You don’t unlearn the skill as soon as you step into a KC-135.

The coordination of doing it with heavies is the cool part. The physical act of flying it is kind of “meh.”

You are exactly right. Skill wise, nothing much to it, but watching heavies executing a formation echelon turn is good stuff.

Thats cool. Nice display of aviation:)

Very nice. Thanks for sharing
