I just picked up a T1 to engineer a new mount and I have a question about it.
I got a floor model and I think mine might be defective. The dot appears as normal on all settings. The problem is that with the dial in an 8+ position if you are looking even slightly off center the upper left half (/) of the “lense” suddenly has a red bloom across the entire surface. The dot is still there and unchanged in shape, but the bloom adds to the sight picture and really messes with my head.
So question - is this normal or should I return the optic for an exchange?
If I make the dot appear in the bottom right of the sight, I notice a slight diagonal line of “discoloration” on the top right side of the sight. Even with the brightness on zero, that diagonal area is a light pink.
I totally forgot to try it with the dot off. If it stays i’ll figure it normal. If it goes away I would assume it is a defect with the optic - especially being a floor model.
Mine does the same thing even with the red dot off. If light enters the T1red dot a certain angle there is a red cast across the left side side at a 45 degree angle. It only seems to go halfway across the scope. I can reproduce it if I am in a room with a lamp as the only light source. When I hold the optic at a certain angle to the lamp a red cast comes across the field of view. I don’t know if this is the same thing you experience or not.
When I first got my H-1 several years ago, I saw the same reflection whether the dot was on or off. There were some threads at the time discussing it. The reflection only occurred for me while fonding my toy in an unlighted room with a large bay window with lots of sunlight coming in (& only at certain angles in relation to the window).
Outdoors on the range & in the woods, I have never noticed it. I actually forgot about it until I saw this thread.
Looks fine. One picture you seem to have the blooming from having it too high. Second picture looks like the refraction patterns from the thin-film coatings they use on the lenses.
