I noticed sometimes when I look through my new Aimpoint PRO that the dot isn’t always a perfect circle. Sometimes the dot seems to look more like a lower case letter “i”, an explanation point (!) or even two dots (
right on top of each other then a circle. Then other times it looks like a perfect circle. Have you noticed anything like this with your Aimpoint PRO optic’s?

I have a m4s, T1 and a H1 and sometimes my dot is round and other times it is shaped funny with all three sights. I think it is just my eyes and normal.
It’s your eyes.
I thought my Aimpoint was showing a funny dot at times when I first started using it. A little internet reading led me to discover this trick:
Take a picture of your dot and print it. Try it.
Now that I know it’s me and not the dot, I just deal with it. I pretty much see about an 8 MOA bugsplat. A little better with a 2MOA Aimpoint.
Will an EOTech dot do the same thing?

All red dot sights will do the same thing. It’s what’s going on with your eyes.
I recently had cataract surgery, after seeing a backwards “y” instead of the round dot. Now it’s almost perfectly round.
Lots of stuff going on with how we see. Most of it comes with getting a little older.
I see a cluster of dots with Aimpoints (except for the 4 MOA M2, not the same for the 4 MOA M3), but my EOTech looks spot on.
Yup, they all do it. You might check it in bright light though. They seem fuzzier in lower light in my opinion.
Funny, I looked through an Eotech and it looks like one giant smear. I look through an aimpoint, and it looks like a comma. I can use a comma. The smear is just too busy.
I hate my astigmatism.
I should have also prefaced that by saying I had laser surgery in 2008 to correct my astigmatism. Looking through two different diode types back to back produce vastly different dots too. It is strange.
The M2’s look perfectly round. The M3’s look like a cluster. The T-1’s look like a giant railroad spike. I haven’t looked at a 2 MOA T-1 yet to see what they look like.
Turn down the brightness on the Eotech and the smear should disappear. The optic is being overdriven. My experience anyway.

Just received my PRO in the mail yesterday and it’s my first Aimpoint, but have a quick question about the intensity levels. I know from experience that with most any red-dot/illuminated reticle the first few levels are worthless (usually have to get to at least setting #3 before you can start to see faint illumination). However, with the PRO I received settings 1-5 display nothing - not even with the front cap closed in a completely dark room, and the 6th setting is only really adequate for pitch black conditions. Given the PRO only has 9 intensity settings that essentially leaves me with just three to choose from for normal daytime shooting. Not so impressive given the price and Aimpoint’s long-standing reputation for quality and durability.
So is this the “norm” or did I get a bad one or possibly a bad battery?
Sounds normal to me. I always have to crank through the first bunch of settings to see it.
The first 4 or 5 settings are for NVDs. There are 5 or 6 daylight settings. I’ve never seen a situation where I couldn’t match the brightness to the lighting.
Most likely its a astigmatism with your eye. Try looking through it with your other eye and I bet that the shape will change…if so its not the dot that is changing between eyes but it the way your eye sees the dot.
As everyone has already stated, yes it’s normal. I thought the same thing until I got my h1 outside and started looking at my target and not the reticle (both eyes open of course), that’s when it dawned on me that these Aimpoints Rock.
This is exactly how it is for me. Went to the store to look at both, flipped my glasses up and saw a comma on the Aimpoint and a blob on the Eotech XPS2-0, flipped the glasses back down and saw perfect reticles. I think I’ll be going with the Aimpoint PRO based on that.
