i have a ML3 2 moa dot in a larue mount that i bought used. it does not have a mark on it and looks like new but when i turn it on i have to go to about the 5th click before i can see the dot. is this normal or do i have a problem? thanks,Mike
Just curious here. Are you turning it on in light deficient (bedarkened) environment?
I’ve found that even in complete darkness I can’t see the first setting on my ML3, and the second is JUST barely noticeable…I might even be imagining it. In daylight you will need to turn it up pretty good to see the dot.

Indoors or overcast daytime, I use the 5th tick. Evening or morning twilight, 3-4. Last Sunday at the Pala range it was bright as hell, so I was on the 7th.
That’s more or less the same with me and the other 7 non-NVG-capable Comp series optics users I run around with the most.
i was trying it in the house, semi dark conditions. total darkness the 4th click works but with any light at all it takes 5 to see it. my experience is pretty much as riverine posted so no problem i guess. just did not understand why it took so many clicks before any dot was seen. i wondered if it had to do with the night vision settings not being there but i did not know. thanks to all for helping to put my mind at ease,Mike
I just checked the “manufacturer’s opinions” (i.e., user manuals) I have floating around. I’m getting that only the M4 and T1 series have more than a 10-position switch, 16 and 12, respectively.
Other M-series have the 10-pos, so you’re still in the middle of the field @ 5, with 4 positions to go and the last tagged as “Extra Bright” by the manufacturer.
It’s a small thing, but I wish they’d take up the Spinal Tap thought process and take it to 11. I’ve never considered the OFF position to be worthy of counting as its’ own detent.
Perfectly normal - the first settings on the ML3 are for low light. I turn mine full on and then back off two or three clicks. Just now - inside with normal daytime lighting, the 5th click was the first one visible.
My old ML2 is just the opposite - first click is the brightest.
