Aimpoint Micro+Utlimak=no cowitness

Am I doing something wrong? The top rail of the Ultimak is canted towards the front a bit and not precisely level. It seems a bit of a bear to fit properly.

This is on a WASR. Appreciate any thoughts on the matter. Grant, thanks for the easy and speedy transaction.

Small caiber WASR or 7.62x39mm?

7.62x39mm

The UltiMAK should fit perfectly on your rifle type. Can you take a pic?

Not at the moment but here’s an older pic. I didn’t read the link but I’ll got back through the install with it in front of me.

Now I am confused - neither a WASR nor an UltiMAK in the picture…

My bust, what do you see? I’m on painkillers right now.

I see probably an SAR-1 (WASR’s don’t have magwell dimples) and a UTG upper and lower HG. Those won’t allow for co-witness.

I confused SAR 1 with WASR. Ordering an Ultimak. Appreciate the help, man.

SAR-1’s are better rifles anyway… and the UltiMAK is way better than that UTG…

Is there an economical way to get a railed fore end and cowitnessing without spending $300ish?

My response to your question is a question: why do you want/need a railed forend?

Preference. I like the forward grip and having a flashlight to aid me in popping trophy jackrabbits.

Do you think something like this might suit your needs?

I’d sure prefer a forward grip still but it would work.

So…no forward grip?

God no, not on an AK.

Just trying to show that an Ultimak and an Aimpoint Micro should have no problem cowitnessing.

So I should abandon my quest because it won’t work well in the long run? Because I do like the way the AK feels with a forward grip. Talk to me.

IMHO if you really like the feel of the vert grip then I would suggest squaring your stance up and using the magazine as the vert grip.

Vert grips on AK’s, especially on 7.62x39mm AK’s (like yours) tend to get in the way of the reload. Plus you need to go through gyrations to find a way to mount the vert grip.

If you really really like them then I suggest going retro and putting a Romanian wood VFG lower HG on there, and running the UltiMAK topside with the VLTOR scout mount and G2L Nitrolon light. With the wood lower you can even screw in a sling swivel to more suit your tastes.
