Aimpoint Micro H1/T1 Larue Mount BUIS aperture blockage

I recently picked up a Micro with a LT660 (Tall) Larue mount. I dig the micro, but the sight on my LT660 does not work well with my irons (Troy BUIS) -part of the rear sight aperture is blocked by the Micro. The blockage is significant enough for me to consider going with a lower mount.

Larue Tactical says their medium height mount (LT660HK) will not work properly with standard uppers. I’m wondering how much lower than the LT660 this mount would be and how it would affect point of aim/point of impact at different ranges…or is this not a concern?

I would think if you got the lower one you wont have a cowitness and the front sight tower will be covering up what you want to hit

Yes, which would be annoying, but really wouldn’t matter for close range stuff. After all, you can use the red dot with the front lens covered so long as you shoot with both eyes open.

If you center the dot in the Aimpoint (HK mount), the tip of the front sight will be slightly higher.

An American Defense Standard height (for 1/2 co-witness) Aimpoint mount is .18" lower than their High mount according to the specs listed by Brownells. I just installed the AD-68 High and it’s a perfect 1/3 co-witness through a Comp ML3. The upper receiver it’s mounted on is a Noveske, btw.

Assuming the AD-68 high mount is the same height above the rail as the LaRue, (and .18" is enough to get you there), you might try the AD-68 Standard:

Great plug for ADM, but it does nothing to help the OP with an Aimpoint T-1.

According to the latest ADM catalog, it looks like they do have absolute cowitness mounts for the T1. Maybe that is worth looking into?

If you want a lower cowitness on a standard flat-top M4 rail you’ll want to use the ADM mount.

I find it odd that you’re experiencing a blocked rear sight. Given that the rear aperture is the same height on all rear BUIS it shouldn’t matter if you’re using a Troy, Larue, DD, whatever. I have mounted all three of those on my 6933 with T-1 in Larue tall mount and have had no trouble acquiring the irons. I wonder if you could post a picture of what you’re finding? Is this a problem you’ve had on the range or at home mucking around with things? I’m wondering if this is an issue with just different follks like different things or if maybe something is actually wrong with your equipment.

The main culprit is this protrusion on the inside of the sight:

Centering the front sight post in the rear aperture cuts of a significant amount of the lower portion of the rear aperture. You can see how the protrusion inside the Micro interferes with the sight picture.

These pictures aren’t perfect, but as best as I can do with my camera.

Thanks for picking that up - I had 30mm Aimpoint setups on the brain. It does look like a 1/2 co-witness setup could be one solution, however.

Have you played around with moving your T-1 back further?

Not until you suggested trying, but I had to move my micro all the way back to my BUIS for it to make a difference, and then it only worked with the small aperture.
