Aimpoint Inc - New indoor cinema shooting center - Grapevine Texas

Aimpoint Inc. has opened a new indoor cinema shooting range in Grapevine Texas (Sportsman Shooting Center). The facility is 9,500 square feet and is the first cinema shooting range located in the United States. The facility is rifle only, focused on teaching the shooting theory of the Aimpoint sight on running game animals. The facility also has a carbine course available where the shooter will shoot 120 rounds of ammunition during the carbine experience (field turn targets, raise the flag, wooden wheels, Olympic targets 8 seconds, 6 seconds & 4 seconds). We are also introducing a carbine league where teams up to four shooters will compete against other teams.

The facility is broken down into three categories of instruction.

  1. 100 yard underground sight in tunnel.
  2. Interactive laser shooting simulator.
  3. Cinema Range.

The 100 yard underground sight in tunnel removes the need for paper targets and the use of a spotting scope. The system used at our facility is the same system used by the US Olympics. Once the shooter fires his rifle and the round penetrates the target the system generates the location of the shot on a computer monitor setting on the shooting bench next to the shooter. This system gives the shooter instant feedback regarding his windage, elevation and group. If you are a reloader and have several different loads needing to be shot all of the data can be entered into the system. At the end of the shooting sequence all of the information can be printed out for the shooter. This print out will allow the shooter to see just exactly which load shoots the best out of their rifle. The time allotted for the sight in tunnel is 30 minutes.

The interactive laser shooting simulator is where we will teach the student the shooting theory behind the Aimpoint sight. If you do not have an Aimpoint sight it is not a problem. You will still be able to use parts of the shooting theory. The simulator allows you to see exactly what your barrel is doing prior to and after each shot. We can also track the speed of the animal as well as your barrel. The system also allows us to orbit the animal so the student will see the entrance and exit of each shot. We can dissect your shot to the level never seen before and we will be able to tell you what you are doing correctly and incorrectly. More importantly we will be able to fix any problems you might be having. The time allotted for the shooting simulator is 45 minutes.

The cinema range is the “Super Bowl” of our facility. The range itself is 30 yards long with four shooting stations. Once a shooter is ready we will project high definition videos of game animals onto the screen. Once a shot is taken the scenario will pause and a red dot will appear to show the shooter the shot placement. We will always start with easy scenarios and then build into more difficult scenarios. As the difficulty increases so does the shot count. Our video library consists of wild hogs, coyotes, whitetails, elk, red stag, fallow deer, African game, dangerous game and many other categories. Our library has over 300 videos of game animals from all over the world. The allotted time for the cinema range is 45 minutes.

The first 25 members that email me will receive a certificate to come and shoot at our facility at NO CHARGE! Please send your email to the address listed below.

Looked this up online and it looks interesting. Would be cool to implement active shooter videos

Double tap.

Man, this reminds me a little bit of Athena Gun Club’s Simulator, except live ammo is used here. I’m in DFW and if you have plans to expand to tactical training using thsi technology, I’ll be first to sign up.

I have just emailed certificates and brochures to everyone that contacted me via email and requested a certificate. Once you all have decided on a date and time please give us a call so we book your reservation.
We still have certificates left for anyone that is interested.

One thing. How much does ammunition cost?

We do have ammo in stock. Give us a call for pricing.

Just north of you, got some buds interested also. Email sent.

First impressions are great! Adam has been very quick to respond to e-mails. He got me and some buds set up. Called front desk today & made my reservation for next week. We are all excited about heading down. Their website is very informative about what you need & what to expect. I can already tell that I’m going to be letting a lot of folks know about this place.

If you don’t want to read whole post just trust that you need to get your people over to Sportsman Shooting Center in Grapevine TX. Take a plane, stay in a hotel or walk & sleep under 121. Just get there!

My buds & I headed down today. Walked in and was in awe for the next couple hours. Lobby was super clean & uncluttered. They had several nice displays showing most (if not all) Aimpoint’s available to the public. They had about 6-7 ‘demo’ Aimpoint’s set up on some rubber ducks for playing with.

After introduction’s Adam gave us a taste of what was coming. We confirmed zero’s with our rifles & our ammo on a freaking TV screen! Obviously, you can’t live fire a TV more than once, we were firing at a projection on a backing about 30 meters away. Adam explained how the system worked by ‘watching’ for new holes in the backing. Then in real time you get instant feedback for point of impact by way of a crosshair or red dot showing hit on projection. Everybody was good to go, so on to step 2.

Adam then took us into a room that had another projection on the wall. This is where Adam walked us through the use of red dot sights on static & dynamic targets. We used a trainer rifle fitted with an infared laser. Adam ran us through several scenario’s giving us tip’s & critique when needed. This system was able to track not only the shot but also tracked gun movement. This allowed us to go back & view our barrel movement. From this info Adam helped us dial in our lead up to & follow up of a shot. Very fun & informative ‘stage’.

Now was the time. We headed back to the live fire projection. We had a safety brief & loaded up. All four of us were on the firing line at the same time taking turns shooting at critters on the screen. Adam started us on some slow moving animals and as we progressed they got smaller and faster. At one point it was a fox (supposedly, more like a small brown streak!) that challenged all of us. Adam then loaded up some head-to-head steel targets & we paired off and shot against each other. Amazing fun!

Range commands were loud & clear. Adam realized we were not beginners and adapted his range commands to fit but while still maintaining a safe environment. This was much appreciated by all of us. We spent more time shooting & less time ‘carbine 101’ing’. We shot approximately 120 rounds each. The range was clean. Had excellent ventilation, lighting and acoustics. I feared I was going to have to double up on ear protection but muffs alone were fine.

I can not recommend these folks enough. This is truly a top notch facility. I am now one of the first few in the states to shoot on this technology that I think will be the new ‘thing’ (SSC opened in 9/13). A static range will bore you to death after visiting SSC. Use their gear or your’s. You just need to show up!

Thanks again to the fine group of people over at SSC for the chance to come check them out. We had a blast & look
forward to going back.

One last thing, I don’t know what your local carbine matches offer as prizes but Adam was talking about some AMAZING prizes for the match they are trying to set up. I don’t know if the prizes are set in stone yet so I will not mention what they are. But, believe me they are very good.

Their contact info is in the original post of this thread. Give them a call!

Here is a short video recorded in the wrong orientation that shows shooting on projection. It’s not a great video & it does not do the system justice but it is all I have. We took a go pro & dropped the ball on actually using it.

Can’t wait to check this place out, sounds like it’s all state of the art.

14 YEARS ago I saw my first example of this at “Bullseye” indoor Shooting Club / Range . (Pittsburgh)
The top floor of this facility had a huge room with a self -healing screen and 10 or so, scenarios of threats & action, hostages etc.
Too bad the liability insurance, ate them up ; they only lasted 5 yrs. I was , however glad to have been a member, and in retrospect , the membership and $ charges weren’t that steep.

I just sent out certificates to everyone that sent me an email. If I missed anyone please send me another email.

Adam

Thank you very much I cannot wait to come out and see you guys.

I have more certificates to give away. For those of you that have already came and shot with us please let your friends know about our facility. For those of you that are on the forum and have not come and shot with us now is the time to do so. I don’t know how much longer the free shooting offer will be available.
If you are interested in shooting with us for free please email at the below listed address
