Aimpoint dot ghosting when Aimpint magnifier used

I just got Aimpoint magnifier which is mounted behind my M2 with 4 MOA dot. When using the magnifier, I notice the dot looking almost like a figure 8 - two dots instead of one. However, if I rotate the rifle, this effect goes away. I mounted the magnifier per manual with the logo on top. Are there some other adjustments I am missing?
I experience a similar issue with my friend’s Aimpoint magnifier. Only by slightly canting the rifle to one side or another, was I able to see a single dot.

Thanks!

How much distance between the 3X and the optic? I’ve found the closer you mount the two together, the sharper the dot. ?The dot on my T1 looked oblong through the mag at first, but by playing with the mount I got it one space closer. Problem solved.

The magnifier is almost next to the M2. Maybe 2mm space at most.

As I understand it, the magnifier was intended for the 2MOA dot of the M3 & M4.

By using it on an older model with the 4MOA dot, it will look less precise.

Should be still usable though. It’s not a target optic.

It’s not about “precise looking dot”. If I hold the rifle upright, it looks like there are two dots, one super imposed on another - giving a “figure 8” appearance, if I slightly cant the rifle, the dot becomes one again. I am trying to figure out what’s happening.

Roger.

In that case I don’t know.

“Doctor, it hurts when I do this.”

“Well, don’t do it.”

you should pm fjb and ask him about it. I’m betting there is some sort of adjustment on the magnifier that will fix it. since the distortion changes when canted, the issue is probably not something like astigmatism.
