Aimpoint CompM4, slop in the knob

I have a relatively new CompM4 that has an unacceptable amount of slop/play in the on/off/adjustment knob between clicks. Is this a common issue, one that I can fix myself? Or should I give Aimpoint a call?

Thanks,
Pete

It’s by design. The rotary switch knob, once a weak link in the earliest models has been improved and is now sturdier. There is rotational ‘play’ purposely built into it. If you’re not aware of this, you might think it’s broken or loose. At each detent, the knob is free to rotate a few degrees. On the previous Comp models, the knob is attached directly to the rotor, or shaft. On the CompM4, the knob is mechanically ‘separated’ from the shaft of the switch, and instead is secured and rotates in the sight’s body. The force of an external impact or blow to the knob is not transmitted to the switch, but to the body instead, preventing damage to the switch.

Thank you very much for such a thorough explanation!!!

I wondered this too, great info!

Oh good, just got mine in and thought it was messed up. I love this sight!
