I am buying my first m4(DDM4), and am wondering what type of aimpoint I should use. Price is an issue and I plan on buying from the equipment exchange. I have no need for nv. I want a durable optic/mount that will hold up to use and minor abuse and possible neglect:D. Any help would be appreciated.
I vote for a H1 / Larue mount
Good advice.
For an Aimpoint on a budget, you can probably pick up a decent shape used m2 with a mount or a couple hundred bucks. If you are open to other brands, I run an Eotech 552. The Eotech has a great field of view and I have never had any problems with any of mine. Personal preference though.
Aimpoint C3
Used M2/ML2/M3/ML3
Aimpoint CompC3
Aimpoint H-1
Take any of the above and stick it in a LaRue or ADM mount.
You pay a premium for the night vision models that I don’t think is worth it for the majority of people buying these things.
If you can shoot a buddies with the.optic you.will have a better idea what you like and what works for you. I started with a G4 traded towards an H1 then bought ankher H1 all three had LaRue QD mounts. The 4 MOA dot did not work well with my eyes. I now have an M4 and an Accupoint TR24. If your eyes are good any of the Aimpoints will rock for you. I bought my first on the EE here for a great price. Have fun and let us know.
I was a huge fan of the M4S because of the AA battery. But I love my T1.
I went with an H1 on a Daniel Defense Micro mount. I did not need NV capable or QD mount. Very satisfied with my choice.
Will add 3x magnification on Larue QD down the road.
Comp c3. Battery life is better then the older m series and it is built quite nicely.
If you can swing the price of the H1 I’d go for that. At least for me I really like the tiny/lightweight micro Aimpoint. I’ve used the M4s also. For me compact and lightweight is always a primary consideration.
I have used different sights (aimpoint, eotech, leupold 1-3) and am definitely set on an aimpoint but I think I will listen to the majority here and try an h1 with a larue mount.
I’ve always been partial to Eotechs for their reticle and field of view, but went lightweight on a recent SBR build and decided to try an Aimpoint. I pondered the T-1 vs H-1 and decided that for an extra $45 (both on a Larue tall mount) I’d go for the top of the Aimpoint line since that $45 was such a low percentage of the total.
The T-1 has fulfilled my expectations re: weight, but after two courses and a couple of thousand rounds with the T-1…I’m still partial to Eotechs.
You will be happy with your decision. Two great companies.
I think you’ll really enjoy the H-1 with a Larue LT660 mount. Mine has served me very well.

If your on a budget a m2 or m3 would be a good choice…If your deciding between h1 or t1 I would just get the t1 for $40 or so more through Larue
Or you can get 2 H-1’s like me for 800.00 bucks lol.
I have had great luck with the aimpoint comp C3. When I was pricing them it was the least expensive of the aimpoints while still being very durable, light, and very good battery life. I bought mine with the ADM high mount and the two combined make a great package.
I have a 2MOA ML3 on a LaRue QD mount & that set up works well for me. I highly recommend the LaRue mounts. I have one for my EOTech, too.
You probably won’t go wrong with any of the newer AP’s with their incredible 5-6 year battery life.
Do they make a H1 or T1 with a 2MOA dot? If not, any major disadvantage with the 4MOA dot? I use my Colt 6940 with iron currently not for HD/fun at the range. Would like to take a carbine class. Not expecting much, but would like to go out to 200 or so yards on a man sized target if need be.
