Aimpoint 3X mount

I have an Aimpoint C3 in a LaRue Tactical Cantilever LT-129 mount now. Im looking at adding a 3X mag to my AR. Which mount should I use?

Or is there a better mount for the 3X out there?

Thanks Casey

I highly recommend the LT649. I have one with the Po-boy special magnifiers in it.

those are both excellent options. i personally went with aimpoints twist mount. my reason is because my rifle is a close range self-defense carbine. i’ve already IMO got to much crap, aimpoint c3 and surefire g2 as well as a tango down grip. so i wanted the option to have magnified optics in a snap. i will keep the magnifier in a pouch on my chest rig and if i need it i can snap it on. this also gives me a monocular at hand.

pivot mount all the way. i got the po` boy special a year ago or so

just ordered an Aimpoint 3x from Noveske. with shipping its about $100 under retail. one left if you’re interested. i figured i already had a good mount, so why not. i can still use the Hensolt on something else perhaps.

I wouldn’t run a magnifier if it wasn’t in the LT649 mount.

Why? Just so we’re clear I have my m3 mounted in a LTcant

the LT649 keeps the magnifier on the weapon, you can switch back and forth on the fly.

twist off mounts you need to keep it in a pouch, takes a while to deploy and there is an issue with retention with anything you have to remove and attach in the field.

LT649 is the way to go. it looks better designed than other flip mounts from the likes of samson and such

well to each his own i guess, i would prefer LT make a twist off mount. but for me atm they dont. the optic has two uses if i can remove it from weapon.

you can remove the LT 649 too. it has a throw lever. going back on is a bit trickier with the LT Cant mount, because you can’t reverse the mount…the levers do sort of interfere with each other in that instance

the LT649 has to go on first if your levers are on the left side and if you’re running the LT Cant mount you’re stuck with them on the left.

but whatever…you never have to take it off unless you’re servicing the weapon

what do you think 10x24 binoculars are for? i don’t need a 3x handheld monocular.

you can buy a powerful handheld monocular for a hell of a lot cheaper than the Aimpoint 3x. they’re far too powerful for use with a red dot and non-mountable, but they make a much better handheld monocular than the 3x

i understand your argument. but the same could be said about why not just go with 3x scope, and if you need close range, take it off and use irons. i dont want the magnifier to stay on rifle, thats just me. i’ll have it on me and my go rig does not have my nocs in it. its just rifle and chest rig. anyways this is just my reasoning behind the twist off. i’m not in any way bashing larue, like i said i wish they would come up with a twist off, i’d have it instead of aimpoints. i hate that i have to add a spacer.

I would take the Larue pivot over the twist mount, since you can get it in to action much easier. I will also suggest that you look at the Samson quick flip mount. I have used the Larue and the Samson, and I chose the Samson. I chose the Samson because it is easier to get into and out of view during the matches I have used it in. The Larue has to be pushed forward, and then slid to the slide. I Samson is spring loaded with a lever. You just simply hit the lever, and the spring moves it out of the FOV. When you want it back reach across, and pull it. When it is back in the FOV it automatically locks into place.

I am not saying that Samson products are better than Larue I just prefer this particular application.

The flip mount allows you to switch over more easily. I can go from non-magnified to magnified and back in a couple seconds. It works really well in the matches I’ve been shooting. We’ve had some stages where you start with close up shots, then engage targets at 200-300 yards, and back to close up. It would be too slow with any other mount. This is the niche I see the magnifier filling, quick transitions. It’s also easily removed for weight savings or transfered between carbines. I’m not saying there are no other quality mounts out there, just that most of them don’t really match the niche the magnifier fills. IMO of course.

i’m starting to lean towards the flip mount, think i’ll keep my aimpoint quickrelease and try them both out for awhile.

An advantage of the Aimpoint Twist Mount is the tremendous flexibility to use the Aimpoint 3X Magnifier, Aimpoint Concealed Engagement Unit (CEU), and AN/PVS-14 with the GG&G Aimpoint Twist Lock Night Vision Mount http://www.gggaz.com/index.php?id=208&parents=68,125 on the Twist Mount base. METT-TSL (Mission, Enemy, Terrain/Weather, Troops/Fire Support-friendly, Time, Space, Logistics) will drive a warfighter’s requirement for the system that they choose.

Well now that you mention that I guess I better get a AN/PVS 14, and maybe a LPI. Hell while I’m at it I may as well upgrade to a M4 so all my electronics use the same battery. Guess I’ll be stimulating the economy a little more this year.
Does the mount for the AN/PVS need a spacer like the 3x?
Anyone know why the Magnetic Compass accesory for the AN/PVS 14 says military only?
Anyone got a doghouse I can sleep in?

The AN/PVS-14 mount made by GG&G that fits the Aimpoint TwistMount doesn’t need a spacer. Recommend you call to order their “R” version.
