I currently have a Compml2 2x on my AR.
With my older eyes, this sight is very good for up close (not much distortion for me) and at least out to 100yds.
I have not had the opportunity to test it beyond the 100yd range yet, but with my eyesight as is, I am sure it will be a stretch to see anything decent out to 200 or 300 yds.
I am interested in experimenting with shooting out to 300yds at least and was wondering if it is feasible to add a 3x magnifier behind the Compml2. With the 2x magnification of the ML2, will I get an effective 6x magnification, or, will I get a real distorted sight picture?
I will either invest in a 3x Magnifier, or replace the ML2 with another variable power scope to be decided on.
Nobody has done this combination before?
Am I to assume that I am way off base and should consider a different strategy altogether?
I’m hoping that somebody will sharpshoot me on this, and I’ll couch this in terms of the fact that I have NOT run that setup, but…
I’m thinking that you’ll get a relatively significant degradation in performance as a result of the parallax error created by adding layers of magnifying glass that may not be made to work together with the ML2. Especially since there’s no way to adjust for parallax error like you can on lots of dedicated magnified optics out there.
I think that you’re best served talking to an Aimpoint rep about this, barring experiences from anybody else. Aimpoint will know for sure.
