Well. Uncle Sam gave me a plain and boring Colt M4. after my personal AR’s I hated shooting the thing so I figured it was due for a little change up.
so far shes got the obvious slew of Magpul products, ACS stock, MIAD grip, AFG2, ASAP, RSA, MS2 sling, BAD lever, Enhanced trigger guard… a BCM Gunfighter mod3 large latch charging handle, ambi safety and a Trijicon reflex sight.
my combat load consists of 3 Pmags, 3 HK maritime mags, and 2 surefire 60 round mags.
dont have much planned for it now besides an ambi mag release and maybe muzzle break.
Welcome to M4C! It’s good that you are willing to put money into making your issued firearm better. Most of your mods seem to be well thought out. A couple of comments, though:
You ought to try running your AFG out at the end of your rail rather than in by the magazine well. (Like this)
Have you considered that most breaks will produce a big fireball when fired at night? Is that really something that you want in-country?
ill try moving the AFG around next time i get out on the range.
and yeah Ive thought about it. but considering if/when we see contact its generally a complex attack and weve already been blown up, the muzzle flash isnt my biggest concern. i have thought about adding something like an AAC m4-2000 or a Gemtech Halo to reduce recoil and flash but the idea was quickly shot down by my command
They still issue reflexes? That would have been the first thing gone if it were my rifle. All the other stuff doesn’t mean shit of you can’t hit your target. And you should get a decent BUIS.
the reflex wasnt ‘issued’ really. our commander ordered them for everyone in our company but we havent received any of them, the one Im using was left by the unit we replaced. i prefer it over my Acog or M68 just for snap shooting purposes. and yeah im looking for a good backup, my issued one broke somehow when my truck got hit last month.
You are allowed to modify your issued weapon? I can see a foregrip or sling attachment but allowing you to change out the flash hider, safety selector and adding a bad lever??
That’s what I was thinking. I’ve never even been allowed to change a stock. I would imagine the guy who knows what he’s doing influencing The cheapskate who’s clueless would be an issue.

I carried a 1-4X Elcanmounted on my M-4 while in A-stan. I think that you should consider going with it or the ACOG because of magnification. This is just a personal recommendation on my part.
i got the NSN for the Elcan Specter dfov youre talking about after shooting with one that our sf team has, unfortunately my commander said theyre just too expensive for us to order right now. especially since we just ordered like 70 of the trijicon reflex sights.
Troop, I don’t know what your CO told you but your 1SG and SQLDR should be six feet up your butt for modifying the safety lever, changing the pistol grip, the trigger guard, and adding a BAD lever to an issue rifle. What FOB are you at where they let modding a weapon like this fly and is 26G your MOS, as in 26G, Ground Control Approach Radar Repairman? Someone needs to square your CO away if he is letting this fly. And for the love of God, get the eff’in BUIS back on that rifle.
If he’s attached to an SF unit, and not sitting at a SOTF or higher, than it’s unlikely that he’s doing radar repair work. Before anyone asks, yes, I am in Grp.
Then go back to your ACOG and remount/rezero your BUIS! You will need the magnification to identify threats at distance and to make more precise shots at close range.
Dude, if I was your squad leader I would of fucked your world up for hours. Have a battalion level armorer go through your weapon to make sure you don’t get someone killed. Why the hell are you modifying your weapon anyway, are you bored pulling tower guard?
This. The inner NCO in me exploded. And your armorer (if he’s worth anything) should have an aneurism. Don’t add a break. You’ll be working it off in sweat.
