Afghani headgear...what's it called?

The wife and I were watching TV this A.M. about some Pakistani Taliban leader getting iced by a Drone. We’re looking at the photos of this guy and he’s wearing a type of traditional headgear that looks like a meadow muffin, cow pie or Buffalo Chip. What are these these things called? Seen them on most video and photos coming out of Afghanistan.

Also, do our troops there have a nickname for these things? Just for having a conversation piece, it would be nice to find a source for them here in the U.S.

Called a pakol.

They are called Pakol hats. My brother brought me one back from Afghanistan a few years back.

You can probably find them for sale on the internet.

Its called a PA COOL LEE if you say it like this you will have the correct pronunciation.

It is a HAT from the norther part of the country all though you will see them all over now. I belive it orignated with the Tajakes.

They are fun hats. Just be careful nopt to un roll it, because you will never get it back as tight as they get 'em.

AH the role.

I had much trouble with this at first as well something they dont tell you is that they role a small hankercheif up in side it to make it tight.
