I’m looking for an ar15 can’t afford a super nice one so I was wondering if anyone new of an affordable ar15 but I don’t wanna go buy a piece of junk either so if u guys could give me some ideas that be great thanx
Cheapest I would go would be the S&W Sport, but I recommend setting your current budget aside then every paycheck set aside 50 more and soon you will have enough for a Colt/BCM/etc

These answers would be a big help:
- What do you want to use it for?
- How much do you have to spend?
- How often would you shoot it?
But maybe it’s just me…

The best thing to do is go and get you a Colt 6920. There really ain’t that much difference in the price. If you can get together $700.00-$900.00 dollars then just hang on a little longer and save another $200.00-$300.00 for a great piece. It don’t cost that much more to go first class. This is just my personal opinion so best of luck and let us know what you decide.

I see these pop up way too often, and in the coming months, between all the new gun owners and elections, I can only imagine how many more threads we will see of people trying to scrap together whatever money they can to put together an ar15 before theres no more rifles or parts to buy.

I bought a Windham SRC at the “local” gun shop for $826
I’ve seen them at Wal-Mart for $799
I’m happy with the rifle, put about 100 rounds through it do far.
The main use of the Windham is for my son to use hunting this fall.
I put a Burris Fastfire II red dot on it and Magpul MBUS, like both.
The Windham would be just fine for HD or recreational shooting, IMO.

Has chrome lined bore, forward assist, dust cover (features missing on cheaper AR’s).
I also have a Daniel M4 V2, but honestly I doubt I actually needed “exceeds mil spec” for my use (not competiting, not LE, no AR classes in my future); I do like the free float rail on the DD V2, which is also on the cheaper Stag 2T.
You’d bet your life on a rifle with 100 rounds through it?
We say “Buy a Colt” and it’s good advice. But it’s been difficult for folks to find them in stock. The AR market is uncertain with these rifles and key parts to build them flying off the shelves. Some Walmarts have them in stock, but not all.
It’s not good enough at the moment to simply tell folks “Buy a Colt”. Getting one in the is market means preparation and planning. It means searching diligently and having a warchest (cash in hand) to make the deal when a Colt pops up on the radar. It means being patient until the right deal comes along and not giving in to buying a lesser quality AR that will need upgrading. It means buying a bare-bones AR instead of one with cool quad rails and fancy muzzle devices. Something that can be very hard to do when you have the “I Wants” and the “I Gotta Gets”
I’d say buy a Colt 6920, however if you have no problem taking your time then you could do what I am doing. My rifle is soon to be done and I’ve bought a few parts here and there so I have a 1 off custom AR. It did not come cheap in the long run however it is something I couldn’t just go buy at the gun store. I’d strongly suggest quality over quantity.
Not in a big hurry I just know some of the really nice ones are a couple grand. it wouldn’t get used a lot id break it out to hunt and plink with every once an awhile but I’m wanting something accurate too I know some of the cheaper ones aren’t so accurate
I would never trust a Bushmaster with my life and I certainly wouldn’t trust a re-branded Windham/Bushmaster.
So what do u consider a custom built one? Every little piece? I’m newto ar’s always wanted one I wouldn’t mind custom or buying one a piece at a time but knowing what a good deal is on each part is my problem

Not sure where you are getting your information from, but you are misinformed. I suggest you take the time to read around here and absorb information.
A Colt 6920, Daniel Defense or BCM build is more than accurate enough. Assuming that you can provide the other half of the equation.
You can also add a few things to help increase accuracy- again assuming that you can do your job.
A Colt 6920 will run you about 1050.00. Daniel Defense around the same. A BCM build probably a little less.
Add a better trigger, optic and some good ammo and you should easily be able to accomplish what you need.
Theres already an “where can I get it thread” and with a “affordable (and reliable) ar15” thread, plus the dealers forum and ads (places to buy) at the top of this site you would think that would be good enough…or the search button.
We can only point the members of this forum in the right direction, we cant go and tell them when to buy it once something comes in stock. And once parts and rifles really start to dry up, they will be shit out of luck for the most part.
And let me just say I have no problem at all with new threads being made, or even questions being asked that have been asked plenty of times before. Everyone learns sometime and all that. I just think a ‘afforable and reliable ar15’ sticky thread would be a good idea, because this is one thread that will continue to show up every month.

Spudster, if you have questions about AR15 parts use the search feature at the top upper right of this forum. If it’s an AR15 part or a complete rifle there prolly is a thread about it somewhere on this forum.
With you being new to AR15s I highly recommend you buy a complete rifle for your first purchase. Ggp2jz’s post above mine has a link to Colt 6920s for $995, that is a damn good price in today’s market. I cruise the funshows on regular basis and Colt’s in the $1100 above range leave the tables post haste. Schrubmasters, crock rivers, windham junk, and S&Ws sit on the funshow tables and collect dust.
As others have said, Daniel Defense, Colt, and Bravo Company are the brands you should get. If you find a DPMS/Bushmaster/Other Brand for let’s say…$750, what are you really saving? You can get a Colt 6920 for about $1050 these days. $300 is not even a case of 5.56 ammo these days. That Bushmaster/DPMS will malfunction and break most likely after a few thousand rounds whereas the Colt/DD/BCM will keep working. You will spend much much more money on ammo than the gun itself. You shouldn’t be skimping on the gun. The amount of money and headache it will cost to fix up your messed up sub-par gun will far exceed the extra you’d pay for a top notch gun like a Colt 6920 or DD M4V1.
