Aero Precision Quality?

I’m going to start building an AR pistol that I will eventually turn into an SBR. Since I know I’ll have the SBR lower for life, I want to ensure its good quality.

Does anyone have any experience/knowledge on the Aero Precision lowers? Are they good enough to SBR or should I save up and get a Noveske lower?

The Aero should work just fine for your intended purposes.

They took a bit of a black eye for their pricing during the madness; but I don’t believe that their part quality has ever really been in question.

I have a PSA lower that was made by Aero Precision, and it is in spec in every way that I’m aware of (from a user’s perspective, at least).

I would use one with confidence.

Aero is good to go. They make lowers for quite a few other reputable companies (or at least used to). I also used an AP lower for my SBR with the same concerns as you. Get that paperwork in the mail!

They’re good, I’ve built two ar’s off their lowers, haven’t had any issues. My buddy just started his sbr build with one as well.

Not the lower, but my AP upper is 100%.

Thanks all. One more question, anyone have any experience with On Target Tactical out of Wolfe TX? Dsgarms.com has them for about the same price as a Spikes lower. I like the TX logo too

You’ll be good to go with AP.

I highly recommend DGS arms.

Aero is G2G… But, you can get better for about the same price.

Edited: because I missed a detail on the first go-around.

Food for thought.

  1. Build and fully test the lower before you waste money on the stamp.

  2. You are not married to the lower. Once you remove the upper and sell it the lower becomes a regular lower again. The one obstacle would be if you sold it due to the trust info engraved on it.

  3. I recommend using a lower that you absolutely know is 100% and will be happy with. If you are pinching pennies then you may want to rethink the SBR plan altogether.

I know you are not a lawyer, but you mention this frequently. How does this work? The serial number is still registered with the BATFE as an SBR. Would you just need to send the ATF a letter stating it is no longer an SBR?

Sorry for the hijack, OP.

Sorry to barge but this is correct. Just a letter sent to ATF notifying them of the change, similar to if you were changing SBR barrel length or caliber (permanently).

First, thanks for moving my thread and apologies for posting my question in the wrong area.

Secondly, I know I’m not married to it as far as never being able to sell it (I plan on engraving the barrel with the Trust info), but I am married to it in regard that I’ll never get my money back out of it when you factor in the tax stamp.

I also plan on building it as a pistol first, then apply for the stamp while I work on it as a pistol.

Lastly, I’m not trying to pinch pennies here. I want to build an AR that I will enjoy for the rest of my life and hopefully my kid’s life after I’m gone. There are just so many out there I don’t know which are GTG and which aren’t. I called Target Tactical and they said they have someone else make their lowers with their roll-mark so they should be just as good as anyone else’s lowers. But, I’ve always wanted a Noveske so I’m thinking I’ll pick up a Noveske 11.5" barrel and lower from DSG. The price between the Chainsaw and regular is only $10-15 so I’ll spend the extra to get the non-chainsaw (even though I’m just going to paint it.

This is what I’ve decided to do for today. Ask me tomorrow and I’ll likely have another plan. But many thanks for the info you guys provide as it helps me tremendously when trying to make an educated decision.

You don’t have to send a letter, but they recommend it. See number4 and 5 in the link below to ATF’s FAQ’s on SBR’s. http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/national-firearms-act-short-barreled-rifles-shotguns.html
