you want to tune the gas block so that you get enough gas to consistently lock the bolt back when the mag runs dry, “last round bolt hold open”. That’s your prime tuning criteria.

Off the shoulder if you want it reliable. Hold the rifle as loosely as possible to allow it to recoil pretty freely. Repeat in the cold of winter or with ammo out of the freezer.
