Given that there has been a lot of discussion here about the Eotech XPS and LaRue LT-110 mount, would you mind taking a quick look at the situation I’m encountering with my setup after adding a magnifier (also on a LaRue QD mount)? I’ve included pics.
Basically, I don’t have enough space now to mount everything on the receiver and have tried flipping the LT-110 mount backwards (as I see you’ve also done) to gain back some of wasted space from the additional riser section. But now, the mount is over the gap.
Thanks so much! I really appreciate any insight you could provide.
It’s hard to see the pics from where I’m at but is your iron sight all the way to the rear? It looks like one of those plastic ones - they take up a bit more space than some others.
The magnifier should be mounted on the raised portion if the Larue mount and the EOTech on the other piece- all of that butted against the rear iron. Which magnifier do you have?
Besides 25,000 ft HAHOs, 12 hour patrols in the Hindu Cush, and locking out of a submarine 30ft down and coming over the beach in heavy surf- EOTechs aren’t very tough.
Hopefully SOCOM will get it’s shit together soon before the boys get into any 600 hour gunfights or all the batteries fail.
That’s a Magpul BUIS and it’s in the very last hole on the rear of the receiver.
The magnifier is a LaRue Po Boy (came out a couple of years ago). Mark LaRue put them together from a surplus tank range finder (it’s Zeiss glass) and one of his tall, flip-to-side mounts. Problem is, the magnifier and mount are too high when placed on the additional riser section of the LT-110.
If I have to, I might need to get rid of my LT-110 mount and XPS-2 and replace it with an EXPS-2 (with the built-in riser). That should line up correctly with the magnifier (already on its own 7mm mount) and have a smaller footprint on the receiver without crossing the gap. I was just wondering if I really need to go through this equipment swap and how detrimental my current situation is to my zero - and my rifle.
If you had to choose from a 553 I believe it is, has the elv and wind on the side and the on and off buttons on the front (65moa/1moa single dot mode only, made in 2011) or an XPS(or the other smaller models), which would you prefer … the 553 also has the QD levers built into it, but it seems like it would be to low for my irons to have a good co-wit?
Any help on this- I haven’t tried it on a weapon yet.
Do you bother with the lens cover/hood combo that’s available, or do you just leave it “naked”? I ask because it seems like the bikini cover for my Aimpoint T1 is just more trouble than it’s worth after a fashion.
I don’t use Larue anymore cause i only have EXPS now.
The xps is fine, many bros have one. There is no ninja law that says you have to have an optic mounted on a riser to get irons in the lower third. If you have flip down irons, it really doesn’t matter- the irons will just be in the top third should you ever need them. Yeah, there’s no qd, but honestly look at the odds of glass cracking or being covered- It’s not the ideal setup, but it’s what some folks have.
