OK, I have a PARS FMP G3, which as most of you probably know, is made on HK tools, and under HK license, and it is a good rifle. The problem is, due to import restrictions, it has a lug welded over the threads at the muzzle. I have done a lot of research, and asked this question several times, and gotten a lot of very varied answers. I have been told that the lug can be taken off with a lathe, it can be twisted off with a breaker bar, it can be cut off with a dremel, and so on. But I am worried about damaging the barrel, and I don’t have my own workshop, so maybe it would be best to send it off to be done. I have also considered just selling the damn thing, but when I posted ads, I never got much interest. So if anyone has suggestions on removing the lug, or where to send, or how to sell it, I am most appreciative.
There are a number of guys who are HK centric that can do that work.
Both Mark Graham and Derek Huffman out in Arizona do good work on HK’s.
Mario at Piece of History Firearms would also be one to consider.
I’d just send them the barrelled action, without the buttstock, fire control group, etc.
If you do take that off the muzzle, you’ll need to add the appropriate # of US parts in it to make it a “US” rifle legally.
I’d not sell it unless you really want something else. Quality factory built G3 rifles are getting harder and harder to find.
Thanks, that is what I want to do, is make it compliant, and get rid of the ugly green thumbhole stock and muzzle lug. If you have contact info for any of them, it would be greatly appreciated.
