Advice for a 1st AR, M&P lower, 14.5" pinned FS flat-top, 1 in 7 upper?

I’m looking to get my 1st AR.

I’m looking at a Completed S&W M&P 15 lower for around $250. I have a lot of M&P semi-autos and revolvers and think it would be nifty to have an M&P AR, so I’m willing to pay a little more for the name, silly as it is. I realize cheaper ones can probably be had.

For the upper I was looking at a BCM:

But those are out of stock. Are there any recommendations for any other 14.5" pinned flash hider, flat-top, quad-rail, 1 in 7 twist type uppers for under $1000?

Is there any reason why the things I’ve chosen wouldn’t work? I plan on installing an Eotech atop the rifle and using it as the primary sighting system with BUIS.

This will be a inside-200 yard, close quarter, carbine-class type rifle. I have some .308’s that will cover the bases for longer ranges and target shooting. Thanks for your recommendations.

The other thing I’m considering is the S&W M&P 15 viking tactics.

I don’t really like the way the gun looks that much, but it has 1 in 7" twist, a free float handguard, flat top upper, and seems like a bargain for the $1400 they go for on gunbroker, especially considering it comes with a surefire.

Get on the “email when in stock” list for the BCM. It will not fail you and you will never have to question whether or not you made the correct choice. If you’re willing to expand your options to a 16" barreled upper then grab a BCM middy or a Daniel Defense XV or M4. I have both BCM and DD products, and they all function reliably.

G&R shows the BCM 14.5 upper in stock with a pinned A2X flash hider.
