Advantage of a Sig 556 over a conventional AR-15

I have an AR-15. I shoot it for leisure. I have considered keeping it for home defense but my 12 gauge seems to do that.

The Sig 556 interests me. What additional advantages does it give a user?

None.

NONE. Its crap IMO compared to a quality AR

Not true!
You guys are just prejudiced… a Sig bests an AR in many ways.

  • If you are a 110 lb. weakling, a Sig will build your muscles up faster.
  • A Sig will help you improve your Google-foo skills trying to find parts way more than an AR will.
  • Any wimp can “accessorize” an AR but it takes a real man to just find simple things for a Sig, like good sling points?
  • I seldom get comments about my AR trigger but I always got comments about the Sig trigger - “What up with that mushy trigger?”
  • A Sig makes a much better boat anchor than an AR.

And lastly…Selling my Sig gave me way waaayyy more satisfaction and enjoyment than all of the AR’s I have sold put together.

But maybe it’s just me…

.

LMFAO!!! Very well put sir!

Not sure I would call a 556 a precision rifle either. Having shot one, I wouldn’t trade my AR for it.

Exactly… I almost choked when I read this title in the Precision forum.

The Sig 556 is a turd compared to the AR. I used to shoot with a Sig Fanboy. I laughed when he struggled to put the piece of crap back together after field stripping it.

Awesome points. Thanks for the laughs.

I decided to forgo the Sig. Thanks for saving me some cash!

None. I would also reconsider the SG for HD.

It can become an sbr folding stock rifle, but at that point why not get a scar?

Well if you want to work out with it and get in better shape because its heavier. Its crap compared to a good AR!

The AR15 over all is one of the better rifles ever made.

The Sig makes one heck of a club.

Why did Sig never import their actual good rifles like the real Swiss 550, 551, etc here in big numbers? Import laws? Or did they figure we wouldn’t buy enough to make it worthwhile?

With the import ban, you are not going to get a real all Swiss 550 or a 551, and even if it could be imported, the price would be much higher than what SIG is selling their 556-based 551 clone for. The 556 uses standard AR magazines while the 551 must use Swiss mags and a Swiss stock.

I’m not even convinced that the “real” Sigs are all they’re cracked up to be. I lump them in with the FNC and other similar guns that have a perceived “better” because they were/are hard to get and the few that did get the crowed about their superiosity so loudly that others started to believe it. I’m all for listening to the guy with hands-on over the guy without, but when the guy with hands-on is probably doing weird shit to his rifle in his mother’s basement with the lights out, it starts to get a little biased.

None that I’m aware of. Perhaps the opportunity to practice more failure drills.

Banned in 1989 and only a few hundred came in along with a handful of thumbhole sporters after the fact. To bring one in now it would have to be neutered to the extent of the HK SL8 and SIG doesn’t seem interested in making a specific “US importable” rifle that takes only a 10 round magazine that would cost three times what an AR costs and nobody would buy.

I own both a FNC and a 550, and while I “like” the FNC for all of it’s “rarity and uniqueness” it is quite a long way from being capable of what an AR-15 can do.

What makes the SIG so interesting, besides being made of rarium, is that it can do a lot of the things an AR 15 can do in terms of accuracy and performance.
