ACOG TA31F & close range question

I’m having trouble shooting something at close range with my TA31F. I use the tip of the chevron for everything inside 100m but at 25m or less, I keep missing. Where should I be aiming in my scope for anything under 25m?

Your problem is a little thing called “sight over bore” If you look at the center of your AGOC, it is almost 3 inches over the line of your bore. At such close ranges, your point of aim, point of impact is almost the same. I recommend you get some 1/2 inch graph paper and make a point of aim, then start shooting from 25 back to 7 and document the difference, adjusting your point of aim accordingly.

Shotdown, given that the TA31 is basically zeroed @ 33m (36yds, same thing) using the 300m aimpoint on the BDC, then confirmed @ 100m with the tip of the chevron, using the tip of the chevron 25m and in isn’t going to get you a ticket to the game unless you’re using it as the basis for holds.

What kmrt said is essentially correct, to really understand where you’re printing, you need to log the results of a tip-of-chevron hold at different ranges, but if you’re shooting anything smaller than an Echo silhouette (16"x40"), you could be shooting under the target until you get really close. Use a 2’x4’ piece of whatever to ensure that you’re printing on something.

For a quick fix, start using the 300m aimpoint (the tip of the vertical red line at the top of the BDC) instead of the top of the teepee. See what it does for you.

Thanks for the help guys. I’ll set up a target and see where I’m shooting at close range.
