ACOG reticle stopped working...?

My buddy and I were out at the range earlier today mostly testing out some new cold weather gear (we’re in interior Alaska, and the temp was about -32 degrees). After about one mag through his SCAR-H, the reticle on his TA33 3X ACOG was no longer lit up, it was just a black triangle. If we tilt the gun from side to side it would sort of come back for a brief second, but that was it.

He’s going to call Trijicon on Monday, but until then, has anyone ever heard of this? Is it possible something in the optic froze up?

I’ve heard stories of the scar 17 destroying the most robust of optics; combined with the cold winter I wouldn’t be surprised if something knocked loose inside…

Im no expert by any means, but my guess would be maybe a fiberoptic broke inside, and it came on when you tipped it and it fell back together? Im really curious as I’ve never even heard of that before.

If you tip it from side to side it sort of flashes back on for a second. My buddy should be calling Trijicon today.

sounds like the fiber optic portion came loose. could be a combination of SCAR-H recoil and cold temperatures. it still should not happen though, so Trijicon will surely send him a new one or repair his.
