My TA31RCO-M4CP (designated for the 14.5 in barrel) arrived Thursday but had a reticle issue. Dealer had another one overnighted yesterday which arrived today and the distributor (obviously not looking at the original invoice) shipped the TA31RCO-A4CP (designated for the 20 in barrel).
I have the 16 in CHF DD barrel and was going to compensate with the M4CP since it is only an 1.5 in diff in barrel length but the 4 in difference on the A4CP concerns me.
Common sense: Unless you are shooting mil spec ammo out of a mil spec barrel the BDC is going to be off anyways. Ive been shooting out to 1000 yards with a 5.56, and there is a HUGE difference just between ammo types even between different 556 loads. Today I was shooting IMI M193 out of my Mk12 build, and it was only 25 clicks (.10 mils per click) down. Ive shot other M193 type ammo, its been around 30 clicks. The point is I doubt the BDC would be on anyways.
Emotional response: If its going to bother you having the A4 version wait for the M4.
Honsetly dude I don’t think it will be a big difference. Like the other guy said different ammo will give different results. I’d zero that piece, and shoot it till the cows came home. Also if you ever get a 20" upper you’re good to go with that model.
Edit: I saw your name. I used to race BMX in the late 70’s to the early 80’s. Good times bro.
Thanks! I was just checking. I knew the BDC would be off but just wanted some forum input. I am going to “try” and consistantly shoot the 69g ammo and would note all changes.
BTW, I still raced up until a year and a half ago when I started this new job…travel a ton and could not get to the Nationals. If things slow down at work, I’ll be back for the 2012 National season
This pic was from the Tar Heel Nationals in Charlotte, NC 2 years ago…
41-45C
York National main event 5th from left on this one (bumped gate but did not back off and railed the first turn and came out 3rd…finished second on this day.
Having an optic for a barrel 1.5" less than what you have makes far more sense than maybe picking up one for a barrel 4.5" longer than the one you have on the gun.
Either one would be off, ammo dependent. You’d be way the hell off with the 20" BDC, and that’s in addition to the idea that the dealer needs to get what you ordered or give you your money back.
That was my thought exactly Jim. The distributor that screwed up was already called by my dealer and since I am leaving tomorrow @ 0500, they will be drop shipping the replacement to my hotel by Tuesday.
