ACOG on a VELTOR

In a PM here, a member suggested that the ACOG(sitting on a VELTOR) on my rifle was too high, and that I might consider a ARMS 19LD low mount to help lower it, advice I appreciated, I might add.
The ARMS site says the mount only raises the ACOG 3/16", but, if you look at the photo, I’m only at about 1/4 inch rise(I stupidly forgot to actually measure it when I took the pic) as a result of the mount being used.
Would I actually gain much with the 3/16 ARMS mount, or is the problem possibly the VELTOR rail?

i’m assuming you mean vltor, not veltor, and are referring to a CASV. the CASV adds height to the flat top. you’re not going to get a lower mount for the ACOG that’ll make a noticeable difference.
how does it feel? if it’s comfortable, then you don’t have a problem. if you want to mount the ACOG directly to the flat top, you need a rail that doesn’t attach there.

Correct, my mistake.

The ACOG is certainly higher than I’d like it, but it’s not unworkable I guess, and frankly, I’m not a particularly sophisticated user of the AR-15 truth be told, mostly just a recreational rifle. I’ve not hardly shot it yet, actually, maybe 30-50 rounds or so.
In the end, it’s likely the ACOG will go away and I’ll go strictly with irons, or perhaps a more conventional scope.
I should be shopping for a different handguard perhaps…

the CASV is a great handguard. put more rounds through it with the ACOG before you decide, and you may find that the extra .475" height isn’t an issue. the height of the ACOG on top of the CASV isn’t much different than an aimpoint with a lower third co-witness, and most people find that pretty comfortable.

I’m thinking that maybe a fixed buttstock might be more comfortable feeling than the adjustable one, maybe.
In the interest of full disclosure I bought this gun because it was a good deal, but I’ve obviously got a lot to learn about it! My last AR didn’t even have forward assist…man I’m gettin’ old…:frowning:
