ACOG on 11.5 POF?

I am putting together an 11.5" POF sbr. I am considering an ACOG/doc setup for cqb and ranging capabilities. I have heard that the POF 11.5 is capable of 1.5 MOA…hence the want for magnification. Does anyone have any educated opinions or suggestions on this setup?

Seems a bit of a waste IMO. Im not gonna do the math but your holdover/ranging tree might be a little/lot off depending on your choice of ammo. Are you set on the idea of an ACOG with the holdover tree?

I would go with the 1.5 power acog the fov is just as good as the acog and it has good eye relief you do a 25 meter zero and you will be set out to 300 meters yet very good at cqb. This is what I will be going on me next ar since I have bad eye that 1.5 will help a lot even if you don’t but I’m just saying… ill be doing it on a 14.5 but that is if obama does not get in… if I could I would buy the lmt lower right now but its gonna take me about another month, but it might be to late.anyway like I said I would not put a ta31/ta01 on it, its just overkill I would say the 1.5x would be the best way to go for cqb yet you can get out to 300 yards with the right zero, I love aimpoints and eotechs but after 50 meters they are useless to me due to my eyes… anyway good luck with the buy.

I’m not set on it…but I do like the quality and versatility of the ACOG. I’m not a big fan of tubular reflex sights, so the aimpoint is not really an option I am considering. I would maybe go with an Eotech 552 with a FTS 3x or 4x magnifier. The only thing I dont like about that is that the FTS magnifier seems like it would be in my periferal vision when in CQB mode

The T1/H1 Aimpoint is not like a standard tube type optic. Its small size overcomes alot of the same issues I aslo have had in that type of sight.

I have a 552 EOTech that I do like a lot but I think I will replace it with the new RX30 from Trijicon.

As far as a FTS magnifier goes; Im not sure about that for me right now. I’ve got some time with the AP 3X xtender/twist mount combo that I didnt really care for. LaRue’s “Po Boy” is interesting to me, though.

ACOGs are…well, ACOGs! Given the compactness of your weapon I would be worried about dominating it with an optic like a full size ACOG. So that would leave the Compact ACOGs such as the TA47 or TA33. Sure there are more but these are the two I’ve got some time with so these are the two I will mention. In fact I think the TA47 might be the smallest ACOG of available types so that could be a good way to go.

BTW–Trijicon is fitting their new “Horseshoe” reticle to the 1.5X compact ACOGs. That could be a nice combo as well. Take care.

Are the ACOG’s waterproof??? I would really like an optic that will go to atleast 30 ft. I thought that the ACOG was waterproof, but now I am second guessing myself…I can’t find any information on this issue

Yes, they are. To what depth I do not recall. I did see some numbers regarding same and IIRC they were pretty good. Also, If you consider that all of the USMC and our Spec Op boys have one available to them it should say alot about its ability/durability.

Keep in mind that the ACOGs reputation for tuffness is a constant throughout all the ACOG line. From their 1.5X Compact to their 6X MGO you will get the same standard of quality, dependability and durability.

You dont have to say but what is your intended use for your POF carbine/optic combo?

I am former USMC and have had several ARs. This one I have promised myself to be the last one I do. I want it to be capable of anything I want it to do. CQB, distance of 200-300 meters, in the water, in the sand. I know that some will disagree with the 11.5" sbr for a multi-purpose weapon…but I have a bolt gun that will reach out and touch…I plan to add high end durable optic and AAC suppressor to the package. I’ll be honest, I also want something that not everyone has.

Thank you for serving, BD. As you know there are a number of ways to go with this. If you have the time and the desire to train with your set-up then a FTS magnifier/RDS combo might be a good way for YOU to go. I myself would feel more comfortable w/a compact ACOG (but look into the LaRue Po Boy). If you need a way to call distance the TA33 will provide that ability or you may look into the IOR 3X25 QR-TS for this task.

Now, having said all of that, please look at my thread “Magnified optics for B/dad deployment”. Alot of good stuff from from people who know what their speaking of. Good luck.
