What would anyone recommend i use as a substitute? I need something that can be removed easily enough if i decide to take the stock off and not use it.
When my friend took it off of his Bushmaster, he cut the foam to pieces and tossed it aside.
I need to find and use something that gives a decent enough cheek weld without causing my face a lot of pain when firing.
I’ve seen people use para cord before, and that looks like it may work. I’m just looking for something that can be safely wrapped around or installed over the buffer tube without causing any issues.
I hope this belongs in this forum, as i do believe it’s a technical matter. Thanks.
Buy a new foam overtube from ACE, I think they’re under $10.
Anything that doesn’t interfere with the charging handle will work. Paracord looks good, and bicycle grip tape looks better and easier to install (less winding). You could also just cut a piece of flat fabric or foam to length and tape it at both ends, maybe in the middle too if necessary.
Why not head over to Lowes or Home Depot and find some Thermacel split foam insulation for pipe. It’s cheap, black, probably would work fine. Easily removable and comes in a multitude of different ID sizes. Gear heads have been using this stuff for years to cover roll bars, etc.
Go to your local feed and tack store, Tractor Supply, or what have you and get some Vet Wrap. Various colors available and can be wraped as thick as you need. You can wrap it thin for charging handle clearence and thicker for a cheek weld. Easy to remove and about $5.
