Accuracy of Nosler .224 64gr BSB?

Anyone done any 100yd+ accuracy testing with factory or handloads using this bullet in an AR?

This should go in the Ammo forum.

Is this the one inside XM556FBIT3 or the Q3313?

Has to be Q3313. XM556FBIT3 is The Speer 62gr TBBC.

Ah, that’s right. If I remember correctly Nosler makes the 64gr bullet so I’d expect it to be accurate. Then again I may just be biased by the fact that Nosler is near where I grew up.

I tend to agree. Nosler’s rep for accuracy is well earned.

Thanks for the responses. I’ll post my results when I get time to accuracy test the load I have worked up.

Looking forward to your results. I bought some based on my experience with other Nosler bullets’ accuracy. But I have several other test loads to try before I get around to the 64 gr BSP. Could be a great all-around premium bullet for hunting and defense. They were a bit cheaper in volume than the Barnes 62 gr TSX and should be able to be loaded a bit faster. The TSX sets a high bar though!

Nosler 64 bsb runs best at 2800-3000fps. 2900 seems to be the sweet spot.

Accuracy is great compared to the win ranger load with the same bullet. Im getting 1.5 - 2.0 inch groups with a max charge of cfe223. They are usually right at 1.5 inches.

These run 2850-2960 depending on barrel length. At these speeds they should expand out to 350 yards. I recently picked up 1000 62 tbbc pulls. If they do not have similar accuracy I will sell them and just get more of the 64 bsb’s

Sounds like I am on the right track. I am using 64gr BSB with 25gr TAC and CCI41 primer. I get 2830 AVG and 16 SD from 16" DD light barrel. Ten shot groups at 25yds are about 3/4". Now the snow is gone I should be able to test at 100yds soon.

A member suggested I post my findings I sent him in PM of the Silver State Armory 5.56 round loaded with this Nosler 64gr PPT. Actual product tested here:

“Well I finally got around to shooting that Silver State Armory stuff. Out of a Centurion Arms medium contour barrel with 1-7 twist and 5.56 chamber, my first 5-round group averaged 2621fps. Yes, 2621fps for a 64gr projectile out of a 14.5” barrel. Again, I was shooting the so-called 5.56 pressure variant of this ammo. Lake City green tip fired out of the same gun, same day, same conditions averaged 2947fps with a SD of 15. Data is as follows for the SSA stuff measured via Magnetospeed at 83*F, 29.19inHg, and 600’ elevation:

First 5-round group averaged 2621fps with an SD of 47 and a group size of just under 2" at 100 yards. Velocity for each shot fired in order was:
2554, 2653, 2659, 2651, 2539

Second 5-round group averaged 2623fps with an SD of 22 and a group size of 1.75" at 100 yards. Velocity for each shot in order was:
2596, 2608, 2645, 2620, 2646

Third and final group was fired from a White Oak Armament 16" medium contour with 1-7 twist and Wylde chamber.
Velocity was 2666fps with an SD of 21 and a group size of 1.75" at 100 yards. Shot velocity in order was:
2680, 2659, 2691, 2634, 2646

Lake City green tip fired from the 16" barrel had a speed of 3019fps with an SD of 8 on same day/same conditions etc.

My 77gr load has speeds of 2665 from the 14.5" Centurion and 2700 from the 16" White Oak barrel. The White Oak barrel has been deemed a slower barrel than other 16" barrels I have had, but it is doing well with my pre-existing 77gr load. So even the 77’s loaded at MK262 velocity are moving faster than this SSA “5.56” ammo. I will also say that the above SSA velocities grouped rather tight (around 0.8-1.0")except for the 2 shots from each group that were not anywhere near the other three’s average velocity…"

To add to the above: the optics on the test rifles were a 1-8 on the 14.5" and 3-18 on the 16". Rounds were fired prone with bipod front and bean bag rear. Both barrels consistently shoot my 77gr load 0.75" or less.

thanks for posting that info j-dubya
when i get home i am going to weigh the pwoder charge on a few of them and see what i get.
interesting to see if i can figure out what powder it is.

I have obtained .5 MOA 5 shot groups with the 64 BSB through my WOA 16 inch barrel. If I used mixed brass it opens up to about 1.5 MOA. It is a very accurate bullet.

I’m very interested to hear what the MV would be for the ND factory .223 load out of a 16 in barrel. Trying to figure out at what range it hits 1600fps.

Box MV says 2750fps. A call to a Nosler rep says that is out of a 24in barrel. I’m guessing somewhere north of 200 yds. Emphasis on guessing.
