With Colt offering more 1911’s like the ones from talo and the Rail Gun that are being carried as is or lightly customized, I am curious what type of accuracy you guys are getting from your stock Colt 1911 barrels at 25 yards?
For those that have a Colt 1911 with a stock barrel, please post the results of your 10 shot groups at 25 yards. If possible use a NRA B8 target.
While I have no target to show you, I sent a stock colt to Clark custom for build into a bullseye gun. The have a solid fixture to test the accuracy of the factory barrel to see if it will meet standard or be replaced. They kept the colt barrel in the build and provided a 2 inch group 50 yard test target. Hand held group ( one handed iron sight bullseye) at 25 yards by me ( on my best day) ran 2 1/2 inches
All of my Colts have been around 3-4’’ guns (off hand). Interestingly enough, I have not noticed any difference between the NM and standard barrels. I probably don’t posses the skill necessary to see the difference. YMMV
I would like to know also.
Also please indicate the number of rounds fired to achieve the “group.” In my mind less than 5 doesn’t count and 10 is a better indicator.
My info mentioned above stands. A 2 inch group at 50 yards of 10 shots with the colt factory barrel. I bought the base gun lightly used (colt 1991 series gun standard barrel) and put perhaps 200 rounds through gun prior to sending it off.
When I benched the gun at 25 with target wad cutters group ran between 1.5 and two inches, which is similar to my personal benched groups with my les Baer premier II with 1.5 inch build.
To compare I recently picked up a colt wwI repro with the tiny gi sights and the fit is pretty loose- rattles a bit when shook some side to side play in slide and a bushing easily removed by hand. Groups with 230 ball at 25 ran 3 inches.
These groups I shot were 8 shot groups, simply using one full mag as my yardstick
I’ve been very happy with the stock barrel in my rail gun. I have not benched it yet but but I have had numerous experienced 1911 shooters comment on how accurate it was. I was all set to put a Kart in it when I sent it to MARS but Steve talked me out of it. He felt the factory barrel was a shooter.
Thanks Dave. I think the gun is capable of better accuracy. My eye sight is not like it used to be. At 25 yards the black bullseye was a blur, so I wasn’t really sure which part of the blob I was really aiming at. I tried to aim at the center of the blob.
