I’m still working on the conclusions and lessons learned, but I have the basics up.
Members Rick Lund and Toni Dandreamatteo of the Southeast Florida International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) club Tropical Sport Shooting Association (TSSA) put on the first of three IDPA “Triple Crown” matches at the Universal Shooting Academy outside of Frostproof, Florida on Saturday, 30 July 2011. The weather was hot, extremely hot, but there was no rainfall.
TSSA member Rob Sloyer volunteered to manage a carbine side stage and contacted Paul Bufoni of Bravo Company USA to request the donation of a carbine for use in the stage and for a raffle at the end of the match. Paul graciously agreed and sent a MID16 MOD0 carbine equipped with a Troy Industries folding rear Battlesight. Total retail value of this package is nearly $1,200. TSSA member Jerry Defalco donated 1,800 rounds of his .223 55 grain reloads to the cause, also at no cost to the match. TSSA members Rob Sloyer, Steve Grasso, Rich_F, and Kevin Curran volunteered their time to run the side stage, with Rich and Kevin being pulled from the stage the morning of the match to run other stages, both of whom graciously changed their plans to benefit the greater good of the match.
All proceeds of both the main match as well as the Carbine Side Stage went to benefit the Special Operation Warriors Foundation. The IDPA Triple Crown - Match 1 raised over $3,000 for the SOWF with over $800 of that coming from the Carbine Side Stage. We want to thank all those who worked on, shot, and paid in for their participation in helping raise such a tremendous donation for such a worthy cause. Especially Rick and Toni for all their hard work in putting on the match, as well as Paul Bufoni and Bravo Company as well as Jerry Defalco for their donations to the cause.
