AAC M4-2000 vs. Surefire FA556-212

I was trying to decide between the AAC M4-2000 and the Surefire FA-556-212.

The Surefire is 16oz, 6" long, and adds 4.3" in length, with a price of $1,390.00;

While the AAC is 16.25oz, 6.625" long, and adds 4" in length, with a price of $895.00.

The AAC has a sound reduction of 36dB (unknown of the sound reduction of the Surefire).

Both look about the same in terms of capability.

Does anyone think the Surefire is a better suppressor and is worth almost $400 more?

But is that the true price difference? I mean… does the Surefire come with a mount?

I don’t think the AAC does anymore. And they’re about $100 each. If the Surefire comes with a mount your price difference would be more close to $300.

In either case a can is a can at that level. I’d definitely go with the cheaper option.

Any thoughts on the Gemtech Halo?

It’s 7.75" long and 25oz, but the newer version will work with a Vortex Flash hider, and it’s only $695.00.

Isn’t the Surefire supposed to have minimal impact shift, or is that just the K can? From AAC you have to step up to the SPR/M4 to get the MITER system if you want POI adjustability. I went with the M4-2000 personally though.

I contacted Gemtech by e-mail. Here is the content of the reply:

[i]The new style HALO model made in 2009 or later is compatible with the
Smith Vortex flash hider. The older, pre-2009, models are not.

Hi.

I don’t want to veer from the original topic further, and it would be more proper to comment on HALO questions better in a different thread, but just as update, the weight quoted in the thread above for the Gemtech HALO reflects the earlier, slightly heavier ones. The new model (that is, indeed, Smith Vortex compatible as well as working with standard NATO flash hiders/comps) is now lighter as seen on the scale below.

I read somewhere that the HALO insides aren’t made of SS and will rust ,can’t be shot Wet.

As I understand it, no rifle silencer manufacturer really recommends them to be shot wet anyway.

The Surefire owners manual for the FA556AR suppressor and the AAC manual for the SPR/M4 suppressor both state that water can be used in the suppressors.

Interesting, AAC had recommended against it on their M4-2000 in 2006.

So the Surefire 212 has little to no POI change? whereas the M4-2000 does? hmmm what kind of POI change is there compared to suppressed/non suppressed? I live in WA where you can own a suppressor but not shoot it, interested in buying one but throwing it on there on day trips to Oregon or back in NC, but don’t want to have to re-zero my weapon every time I take the can off/on.

The price in addition to the Vortex compatibility make the Halo an good alternative. Has anyone used the Halo on a Vortex?

Does anyone know if the Surefire Mini is available, and if so how much does it cost? Is its level of sound reduction in the 30-35dB range?

Some dealers sell the Surefire can for less than what is posted above, but as I recall they can’t post those prices publically due to Surefire’s policies. You may want to call a few stocking dealers to see if you can find a better price.

Many guys get wrapped around the axel about decibel rating, but don’t consider things like how much the suppressor weighs, how much extra length it will add to the barrel, how much point of impact shift, how rugged the mounting system is, etc.

You may want to write a list of what features are most important to you and do research and find the suppressor that has the most features that are important to you.

I’m in the same boat looking at these 2 suppressors. I really like both but leaning towards the Surefire. The reason being is the POI and accuracy increasing ability. I have heard alot of suppressors increse accuracy but it seems like the Surefires have made a name for theirselves in that ball park. Does anyone know if the AAC M4-2000 increases accuracy as well as the Surefire? Also with the Surefire 212K, Can you shoot it on longer barrels such as 16"/18" style barrels? I plan on running my suppressor on a SBR 99% of the time but I would also like to use it on a Bolt/Sniper set up I have, will this work as long as I have it threaded for it? Sorry to highjack but this might be helpful to others as well in reference to these two suppressors.

I agree. Although I haven’t heard EVERY 5.56 can out there, the models I have heard all sound the same to me.

I like the Surefire Mini the best because it only adds 2.75" to the barrel and weighs 14oz. I just haven’t seen any reviews on it, I’m not sure of the cost, and I don’t know if any dealers are carrying it yet.
