I was looking at the AAC Brakeout for one of my AR’s. I run two Vortexs’ and I have one with the standard A2 Birdcage. I am looking to upgrade it and was interested in something that offered some Brake with the flash hider. I may just go with another Vortex, but I wanted some ideas.
The gun is a 16 inch Noveske Upper (Middy) topped off with a 2.5-10X42 Nikon Monarch scope. LMT lower with 2 stage trigger. More of a target , coyote gun. I can shoot it both eyes open on the 2.5 power and it works decent for QCB type shooting, but not optimal of course.
What muzzle brake or flash hider or combo rig would you put on the tip of this gun? Any ideas are helpful because I am only familiar with the two I have.
I was reading with my searches, that some need to be “set up” or tuned or …I want to be able to screw it on and shoot.
I shot mine today on my 14.5" midlength BCM upper.
With this upper I’ve so far used a AAC M4-2000 Brake and a KAC Triple Tap. I didn’t get a chance to put a lot of rounds through it tonight but what I did use was American Eagle 55gr FMJ and Federal XM193.
The AAC Brakeout feels much like a KAC Triple Tap in recoil with AE223 both have the little to no flash. One thing I did notice was that although they feel similar the KAC recoil impulse feels a bit smoother when shooting at high speed. With XM193 the KAC Triple Tap produces more flash but shoots a bit flatter. So the KAC appears to be a little more efficient with higher pressure ammo. XM193 has more recoil in the 14.5" gun than the AE223. The Triple Tap and AAC Brakeout sound about the same to me. Both are quieter than the Benny Hill Rolling Thunder. The AAC Brake (not the Brakeout) on this 14.5" upper is actually louder than the Rolling Thunder on my 16" BCM midlength SS410 upper…weird but true.
The AAC Brake on this 14.5" BCM was by far the best at recoil reduction but like all true brakes it was the loudest.
I’ll be shooting it a little more tomorrow night or this weekend.
GotM4, thanks for the info. Sounds like it actually works well for the price tag. And it seems this group of products are neck in neck in performance.
Question, I would think the 14.5 barrel would be louder than a 16 inch barrel. Did I read that wrong, or why "should a 14.5 not be as loud as 16 inch Middy?
Will that Brakeout just screw on my barrel, or what threading nomenclature am I looking for? ? Sounds good enough for my needs. Thanks for the help.
I’ve shot the FSC556 on other rifles but not this one. I find that KAC Triple Tap a little more effective than the FSC556. I’d say the Brakeout and FSC556 are very close in effectiveness. On another gun I found the KAC Triple Tap quieter than a FSC556. On my 14.5" BCM I shot last night the Brakeout seemed the same in loudness to the KAC so I’m guess the Brakeout is quieter than the FSC556 too.
gotm4, thanks again for precise real world info. I’m going to give a try to the Brakeout , if I can fine one online. Any tips on indexing or orientation before it lands at my door. Much appreciated.
