Yesterday, I had the oportunity to break out my carbine at agency qualification and give my new AAC brakeout a brief test.
Carbine specs are a BCM 16" LW middy upper running a standard car buffer. I fired about 100 rounds of Winchester Ranger .223 64 grain soft point (duty load) to give the AAC a test. Granted this was a small quantity of ammo, but I only had a small amount of ammo to work with, and a short amount of time before the next group showed up and we had to run them through the qual.
Muzzle rise compared to the A2 FH for me was significantly reduced, and I was easily able to tripple tap the chest of a man sized target while standing off hand at 50 yards. All rounds were within a six to eight in circle as fast as I could aquire the dot and press the trigger. The brake is a little loud, but nearly as bad as others I have used or seen, and I did not notice any flash (dark, overcast day for what it’s worth).
As far as felt recoil, the experience can best be described as feeling the gun start to recoil, and then once the round leavs the barrel, the gun is forced back on target and felt as though it was being driven forward to counter the recoil (I hope I explained that well enough). I would liken it to a very stout pellet gun in terms of felt recoil (okay, maybe a little stiffer than that, but very good).
All in all, I am extremely happy with the brake and feel it is money well spent.
