So the AAC 5.56 is US made brass case 5.56x45 NATO with 55gr. FMJ. I bought some to test out because $.40/rd for US brass case is pretty good in today’s market, especially when sold in 20rd boxes.
I got real curious and decided to really dive into the ammo with disassembly and component inspection, velocity data and an accuracy/precision evaluation. PDF attached with the write-up and photos. Feel free to share, just please don’t repost without crediting or attributing.
So that’s the funny thing. Both AAC (Advanced Armament Company) the suppressor company and AAC (America’s Ammunition Company) the ammo company are owned by the same holdings company that owns PSA among others. I break it down a bit in the PDF.
You’re quite welcome, it was a fun little project. I’ll probably do one again but make improvements on the process from what I learned this first time around.
Though not pretty, the brass does look good. I’ll process it the next time I’m ready to run a load through the tumbler and see what we get. Even with two different projectiles, I’m OK with how they shot. I’ll buy more, even if just for range fodder.
I’ve been keeping an eye on it. It comes and goes. I’ve not seen it unavailable for more than a day or two. I think Atlantic just recently sent an email blast out about a big shipment they received.
Somebody correct me if I’m wrong, but that brass looks like it was simply not tumbled again after annealing.
Most factory ammo is tumbled after annealing to make it pretty and shiny, but for example FGMM in 7.62 (as compared to .308) is not, and the annealing remains visible.
Pappabear and another buddy just bought AAC 77 gr OTM ammo at about $0.55 per round from Palmetto State Armory. Apparently out of stock now, but we’ll get to shoot some of this next weekend I’d guess.
(edit: Man… they show TMKs, SMKs, and even the TSX bullets that the gays love as ammo options… Everything is out of stock now, but it’s interesting the options you can get)
I bought 500 rounds so I am really hoping it shoots well. There was a point in time that Outback ammo had 69 SMK’s for .33 a round and I bought a case, but wished I had bought 10 cases. Because that is what an SMK cost at the time. So, when I saw this, I was thinking I better at least grab a few.
Range report to follow. Smart way for them to get the word out on their ammo. Sell an initial lot for cheap, for about the cost of a bullet and primer for gods sake. Be interesting to see if they continue this pricing, which I doubt.
