I’ve got a 10.5" SBR; just ordered a Noveske Switchblock upper for it. I’d normally plan on using an H2 buffer. But I’m wondering about the Vltor A5 system. I have the A5 on a 12.5 SBR. It’s great, but more for taming recoil and a smooth feel. I wouldn’t day that it functions better than a carbine spring/tube with an H2 buffer.
The 10.5 upper is a different story. I want it to be as compact as possible, so the longer A5 system doesn’t appeal to me unless it aids in the function of a suppressed 10.5. Experiences?
I use an A5 on a 10.5" with a Mini-4 suppressor. Honestly I can’t tell the difference between it and a Carbine setup. I shoot with my stock a few notches from fully extended, so the length isnt an issue.
There is more to the A5 system than just feeling smooth, and it has been covered numerous times. The versatility of it is KEY in my opinion. You are not going to notice the littl bit of extra length with the A5.
Only a partial attempt at a hijack, but just realized that I went with the assumption that the kit buffer would be ideal for a suppressed MK18 setup, but…
Does anybody run something other than the stock weight buffer, and should I be looking at picking up an A5H3 or H4?
My SBR with a small port (when I was using KAC uppers, which I have sold to family members) would ONLY lock back on an empty mag (UN-suppressed) with the A5 system. However ONLY with 5.56mm pressure ammo. I don’t know why. Gas port was .056’’
Right now I’m using Colt SOCOM profile barrels (.062’’ port) cut to 11.5’'. VLTOR MUR-1S upper. KAC URX-II (the ones I had shaved). LMT Enhanced carrier. Colt Bolt. Gunfighter charging handle. KAC T3 + QDSS-NT4. I have 2 uppers built like this.
