I’m working on an A4 clone build from a Bushmaster 20" HBAR and need to send it off to ADCO to be re-profiled, threaded and crowned for an A2 FH. Does anyone know how much this service usually costs at ADCO? What exactly do I need to tell them…reprofile it to light under the handguards then thread and crown?
If you want to do it right you’d probably be better off selling the Bushmaster upper and picking up a 20in A4 upper from BCM. It might even end up being cheaper.
How much would the 20" BM HBAR go for?
I don’t know. Let’s guess $300 if you sell it complete, with the bolt and charging handle.
Contouring your whole barrel would cost $95.
Threading and crowning would cost $65.
Shipping would be $20 or so (just a guess).
The complete BCM 20in A4 upper is $520. That is COMPLETE, with the charging handle and bolt.
You could spend $180 turning your Bushmaster upper into an A4gery, or you could $40 more and have a high quality BCM upper half after selling your Bushmaster upper.
on the other hand…
ADCO does fantastic work.:big_boss:
peabody
Add disassembly and reassembly, approx $50 IIRC. Not sure if FH installation is covered in the threading, I’m assuming you have no FH presently. Then you’d have to add in the cost of the FH. A2’s are cheap, others not so cheap.
Does BCM offer govt-profiled barrels only? This may be the cheapest, have ADCO remove your HBAR and install a new govt-profiled barrel. Reuse your existing BCG or add another $150 or so for a new one. Sell your HBAR for $100 maybe, $150 if you sell it with the BCG…
Adco can profile down to .550" - lighter than “lightweight”, for the same price…
I was able to sell it quickly to a gentleman in a AWB state. I’ll be able to get a BCm upper this friday hopefully.
Good move.

Purchased a BCM 20" Govt upper today, making good progress!
Got the upper in and…nevermind got it! Now, this is the 20" AR that I’ve been searching for, for about 10 years. My first 20" was a HBAR and it was too heavy, I gave that to my best friend for his wedding present. I had a USGI M16A2 upper build that I didn’t like the carry handle, sold that. Then my other best friend gave me his Bushmaster 20" HBAR to have since he was moving in with his fiance and couldn’t bring the evil rifle with him. Again it was too heavy…So, I swapped the HBAR upper for a BCM govt profile upper, scavanged a few parts off of other AR’s and it’s getting more in line of what I’m wanting. I like the Aimclone setup and might get a real Aimpoint for the final build or I’m seriously considering an ACOG RCO…

Great looking setup. I am justing getting into teh AR world. I notice the placement of your vertical grip was real close to your receiver. Is that do to having a longer barrel. Most of the carbine rifle I see with a vertical grip is out further away from the receiver. Is that your normal postion ? Thanks, Mike
Nice and simple. I like it.
