A2 Front Sight Durability

I was wondering how durable the A2 front sight is againt impacts. Just had my rifle fall over and the ears of the front sight landed right on my brick fireplace, actually taking a rather large chunk of brick with it. Would this cause the front sight to cant? Never have dropped an AR before so not sure how much abuse it can take. It is a BCM upper by the way. The only visible damage is a few scratches and a small flat spot on the left ear.

That FSB isn’t going to cant from a fall like that.

Assuming it’s a real, pinned to the barrel, forged steel, FSB.

Very tough stuff…simple falls to the ground will never be a problem, now if your chute doesn’t open…

Thanks, just never had a need to do distructive test on AR’s so don’t know exactly how much abuse they can handle in that area. I mounted it in a vice and leveled off the receiver rail and then checked the bottom of the bayonet lug, only consistantly flat spot I could find, and was just off very little in the opposite direction but still between the lines. Guess it is OK.

I hate it when that happens.

Just go shoot it at the range and find out for sure if the POI has changed. If so, make the necessary corrections and be done with it.

Is this a serious question? What kind of abuse do you think they take in combat?
