For my next build I want to make an A2 clone. BUT…I am going to use a BCM gov’t profile flattop and add a cary handle. Will people argue with me that it is NOT an A2 because of the flattop? I want the flattop option for obvious reasons (I may add optics in the future).
Okay, not that I really care what other people think…but it will get old if people give me crap for it all the time.
I believe you will in fact have an A4 clone +/-… You can call it a Z238 clone if you want, it does not bother me, but the major differences between the A2 & A4 are the feed ramps and the flat top…

Alright, screw it. I shall introduce her as an A4 to the outside world…and she will be an A2 only in my mind.

Throw a KAC M5 RAS on there and you will have a A4

Thomas, is that ACOG parked a little bit aft? 1.6" eye relief + nose to charging handle = HUH?
man, that picture brings back memories. my opinion is that if u want to build an a2 then build one, its your money. why not just stick with your original plan and buy a little adapter that puts picatinny rail on the carry hangle. worked for me.
Nose to charging handle went out a while back. At least for me.

Well the upper receiver and carry handle may be A4 but tell them the lower receiver, barrel, FSB, flash hider, stock and pistol grip are A2. And maybe I missed something… Oh, you could replace the 6/3 elevation wheel with one marked 8/3.

so long as it is a carry handle mounted to the rail it will be CMP legal.
